Disappointing

Sorry, I can't recommend this one although the artwork and the technical aspects of the multi-platform engine with lighting and movement (except the nauseating ghost world effects) is well done. The plot is overly self-referential with adventure games effectively derailing itself especially in the end. In the first third the puzzles are more structured and somehow solvable, but become horrible unconnected guesswork in the end. Multiple playable characters lead to repetitive dialog and even more confusing puzzle interactions. Characters lack charm and mystery. The humor is pretty flat. I was expecting so much more. Wadjet Eye Games showed how the genre evolved. Ron Gilbert was sadly too much stuck in nostalgia.

Very good puzzles, but average writting

(en français ici : http://www.jeuxvideo.com/nival/avis/message/1700136) Very good puzzles : intuitive but no too easy way to resolve them, with many little clues to find how to progress ; excellent on this point, approaching the high level of Lucasart's classics. BUT average writing, with lots of dull characters (the duo of fed agents is so poorly used :/ with no interactions between them, exactly same lines of dialogue, in fact no differentiation and no utility ; the game-developper character is only here to repetively tear down the 4th wall without delicacy), only Ransom the clown is a great success (at least during his irresistible first scene, after what he hasn't real utility) ; too much jokes are based on stodgy auto-referneces and heavy and repetitive 4th wall-breaking ; many situations or dialogues ape old classics (but not as good). That being said, the story is pleasant to follow and some good jokes works well ; if I had no real laughing like with Monkey Island or Day of the Tentacle, smiles are guaranteed. And Ransom is really great ; even if underused (but he's REALLY great! (...even if underused)). The conclusion is pretty bold, but I think could disappoint some players, and regrettably consigned to oblivion whole parts of the events. So ? Really good games in its point & click mechanics, but average on the writting side.

Not as good as others say it is.

I was going to give it two stars but decided to grade on a curve of other recent games and gave it an extra star. It starts off quite good and for a little bit its quite entertaining, however, about halfway through the game it goes downhill and I didn't like the ending.

Lots of moving parts, well written

Fun game. Some tricky parts taht I had to resort to the walkthrough to make progress. I liked that you had to control a variety of characters but at times I would get stuck not knowing who should be where. For instance, I kept taking one character to the Penthouse to obtain an item that didn't play into the game until the very end. Thank goodness for the map system as there are quite a few locations to check out with a variety of characters. Long game for me as well. Well worth the price as I find it hard to fork out money for a 2 hour game. The ending was a bit wonky and I "ended" it too soon, had to watch credits and then had to reload to finish.

Love Ron! LucasArts Lovers!

Many LucasArts fan will be really moved. I really appreciated Ron Gilbert and Gangs still makes such wonderful game. Monkey Islands series, Maniac Mansion and sequels, and Indiana Jones all notelgias are yours while on playing this new game. Cheers! Hope to merge with Telltale Games and to step forward the current violent/killing field holic game trend.
