The best I've played, And still play.

I've clocked over 5000 hours on this game. Ordered my 1st specifically built PC to play it on. Joined GOG just to buy it :-) My first game with them. - I've still to completely cover all spots of interest. The only game I have this old, that I go back to. - Started in 6/8/2016 My last save is 31/5/2022. Yep last month. Update 8/09/2025 - I became a Witcher 3 tourist. Just wandering around in the game is worth doing. The views are spectacular. Just walking through the bush, or climbing up the high spots. Sunsets, great! -

"Complete Edition" isn't.

The "Complete Edition" added DRMed content to the game that is only available through use of activation through a client while online.

Flawless

This is legitimately in the top 5 games I have ever played. Graphics, Gameplay, Story Telling, Combat, Voice acting, and Polish. Holy mother of god, this game is good. I actually was gifted the first version of this game with a enw graphics card and with I could just give them more of my money somehow. You guys follow-through with a game, bringing legitimatly worthwhile DLC without microtransacting people to death. I cannot say more about how much I love the studio. Keep it up guys, whatever you make I will buy on sheer principle.

4.0 update ruined my gaming experience

I have an 8 years old PC, but the ver 1.32 was running very good on it with medium settings. After the update 4.0 on the lowest setting I only had 25-30 fps and always lagging, its simply not enjoyable, it's barely playable. At first had an error message, after reinstalling (with my slow net it took hours), I had to check my mods one by one wich is working wich not, it took hours again, and at the end, I can't play. I rolled back to 1.32, done in hours, and I can't play because the the new savegames are not compatible backwards, so my last full save was 4 days ago and this progress is now gone. Now I have to download again the update which will take hours again and I can't play because the performance. The game is uglier in low setting after the update as was before in the 1.32 at medium settings so it should be running smootly but it doesn't. So for me this update was a disaster, it needs a patch really fast that repairs the performance issues, until then I can not play this game which I love very much.

The former gold standard

If you buy the game now, make sure to install version 1.32. CDPR went back and implemented raytracing after developing the technology for Cyberpunk 2077. However, just like Cyberpunk, this game will be riddled with visual glitches when you update to any version post 1.32. And CDPR don't seem to care enough to fix those. So, just play the version of the game that became the gold standard of narrative driven, open-world action RPGs. If you haven't played Witcher 2 before, I highly suggest you do, as there are a handful of choices that will carry over and you won't understand particular parts of the plot if you're missing the context of Witcher 2. Chronologically, the games are set in a Witcher universe post Lady of the Lake. Which means they undo a ton of events from the books, and provide definitive answers to questions that Sapkowski purposefully left the readers to ponder upon putting LotL down. The most obvious one being that Geralt and Yennefer are back from the dead. Blood & Wine even revives Regis, thereby completely voiding the gravitas of the sacrifice he committed for Ciri's freedom. There are also some side quests that attempt to tie up loose ends from the books while violating the very simple rules established in said books. And while Witcher 3 acknowledges a handful of choices the player makes in Witcher 2, it ignores the fates of several extremely influential and powerful characters entirely, or only mentions their fates in passing. If the game had cut 50% of its side quests involving random commoners and instead focused on continuing the stories of Foltest's heirs, Saskia and Iorveth, the development resources would've been utilized for a much better end product. This goes even more for Gwent, which is a massive waste of development time.
