Good Action adventure not a rpg
Really good game if you started playing video games around 2010. For all of you old guys like me it is just a mediocore action adventure with fantastic graphics and presentation but lack of good gameplay.

Pros and Cons
While Witcher 3 is a well-known and well-loved game, which manages to be at least average, but often great in everything, it has some problems. I thought a summary might be useful. PRO - storytelling and writing is the new top standard of the industry. Simply superb. Even simple fetch quests have quality writing and voice acting, some side quests are as memorable as the main questline. - well developed, and logically evolving characters. Very few overused clichés, even extras are memorable - the established characters are used to full effect - the opposing monsters are really well thought-out gameplay-wise - eastern european wibe is unique in PC gaming - the classic folk tales are very well integrated - Corvo Bianco is the only player stronghold that I actually liked. And I have a quite long history with rpgs. CON - some scenes I found a tad long, especially considering there is no pause option - item rewards (and loot) in this game is hopeless. Witcher 2 was much better in this regard. Please don't give me your 300 year old family heirloom sword, I will sell it anyway. - surprisingly ugly armor designs. Most of the armors look worse than W2. Crafted witcher gear and DLC armors are fine, but the rest? - controls are a bit unresponsive. Better than W2, but even after three full playthroughs, I find myself falling down from towers. UNDECIDED - Gwent. The play is nice, but I find it immersion breaking - Character development. I think the intention was to change the active skills based on the monsters, but it doesn't really work. Also, about a third to half of the skills is useless. - I found handholding is a bit too strong. Sometimes it is shameful level step-by-step guide, like enter the house what the quest marker already points to and also highlights with red... I have nothing new to add to the praise of others. This game is the new industry gold standard. Congrats to the developers, or rather Thank you!

Awesome in every respect, but too easy.
This action-adventure, rpg-light game has beautiful graphics, interesting and believable characters, refined storytelling, a humongous amount of content, and... it's just too easy. If you like stories you will love this game. If you hunger for a challenge, you will be disappointed, as even on the hardest difficulty, combat is easy and unchallenging. For this reason I can't even finish the game, the lack of challenge makes me bored, even though the world is beautiful AND ugly and is immersive and interesting in and of itself. I am disappointed, as The Witcher 1 & 2 provided enough challenge to remain interesting throughout, but with this one, I breeze through fights that are more than 5 levels higher than I am, on the hardest difficulty.

Game runs great after next-gen update
Played it for 2 weeks almost every day prior to next-gen (4.0) release. Have Ryzen 9 5900x and 3070, no overclocks and other stuff. On max graphics settings it run really, really well, easy 144+@1080. Capped it off at 144 after some time. As expected of 2015. game on this hardware. After update landed, max settings from before are now somewhere in the middle. Max settings without RTX on, that is. And DLSS/FSR2 being off as well. Still "High" in settings but there are now Ultra+ settings. And game looks a lot (to me) better at those. Dropped FPS from stable 144+ to 75+ (no 72fps cap unfortunately, I have 144Hz monitor and if I can't have 144, 72 is next stop) but honestly, gameplay-wise, same stuff. It's not the type of game where this is too noticable. With RTX enabled for all 4 thingies, it looks even better. I didn't think it'll make that much of a difference but I'm glad I was wrong. FPS drops to 20s-30s. Turning DLSS on and setting it to any setting, it boosts it to some 60fps at best (in the village for example) and 40s in the forest. It looks like shit on Performance and Ultra performance modes and there is minute difference in fps for Quality and Balanced modes so I kept Quality mode on. After a dozen hours of playing like that (RTX max, other gfx settings max and DLSS in Quality mode), Afterburner graph show relatively stable 40fps. Entering dense(r) forests during the day will drop fps to high 20s and being wherever there is no shitton of leaves and grass will bump it to 60s. Playable, imo. Focused on technical aspects because I saw a lot of different takes on this, after the next-gen update and wanted to add my 2 cents to it. On Steam, it seems to have a Launcher added, which is a really dick move if you ask me and it not being in GOG version makes GOG version twice as good. That Launcher breaks Steam Overlay for the game as well. Really dick move. No crashes so far, had 2 before update, 0 after but I have but a few hours after the update. Game great.
