What can I say about the Witcher 2 that has not been said by countless others, it truly is superior to the previous game in every way. From the beautiful visuals to the brutal, fast paced combat, this is a game that RPG fans deserve. Whether you just kind of like RPGs or are a hardcore nerd this has everything you want. At first I was a little skeptical because there was a lot of hype surrounding this game, mainly from the fans of the first game. Which is understandable since the first game is easily one of the best RPG games out there. But could this small developer truly standup to a titan like Bioware; the short answer is yes definitely, without a freaking doubt. These guys did a tremendous job with the game and the only downside is that since it's a PC game only a small amount of gamers will ever truly appreciate it. But hopefully the success of this game will allow the next installment or possibly a new IP to be cross platform. But enough gushing, what you really should know is that if you're considering buying this game, stop considering, buy it, it's that good, you will not be disappointed. The graphics are amazing, everything from lighting, texture design, physics, and special effects are outstanding, it's no wonder the game is 15.9GB to install, they spared no expense. Just make sure you've got the system to run it. The standout features to me are the combat, voice work, and story. The combat is completely different this time around, opting for a simpler hack n' slash system, but that doesn't mean that it's dumbed down, if anything it requires you to make decisions much faster and know your enemies in advance before simply running head first into combat. Even on the easiest difficulty if you don't pay attention to the enemies strengths and weaknesses you'll be in trouble. The voice acting in this game is good by industry standards but not great, in my opinion the Bioware games still have it beat, but mainly because they can afford to hire big name actors. However compared to the first Witcher this a drastic improvement, Geralt no longer sounds like a cardboard cutout that parrots what you click on, he feels more human and well rounded, like man with a troubled past that only now starting to realize his true purpose. The story is a nonlinear as it gets, you truly decide the outcome, your decisions have consequences that you cannot fathom until they're true purpose are revealed. There are no "paragon"/"renegade" options here, only murky shades of gray that make you question your own morality and that of Geralt's . This is what it means to play a role in greater scheme of things as they gradually unfold before you. If it's adventure you seek this is it.

So I just sat through 90minutes of Credits for a 2minute cutscene... oh well. Other then that, it's great. Definitely going to play it again going with different decisions. Apparently also didn't get all the quests I could have gotten

The Good --- One thing that makes The Witcher series great is that most of the plot and choices are morally gray. None of the characters are pure souls, and it all ties together beautifully to make for an intricate and engaging story. You will often be trying to choose the lesser evil, and figuring out which option is actually “lesser.” If you’re looking for a game where the choices are hard and have a big impact on the direction of the game, this is your game. The graphics in the Enhanced Edition make this 2011 game feel like it fits in with our modern games. The sound was good, but didn’t grab me enough to sing much praise. The voice acting is excellent. A great game to play if you are building up to playing the phenomenal Witcher III (some choices carry over), or a great way to get more of The Witcher if you are sad that Witcher III is done. The Bad --- I don’t consider anything here to be a deal breaker. Most of these are only irritating, but there are enough of them it dropped the game a peg for me. Combat isn’t too challenging. Enemies move formulaically. Once you get a system down, you can trash all the fights. And your system will probably feel cheesy and unrealistic. (Thanks Captain Kirk, the rolling really does help). The game relies heavily on quest hubs…and I can’t say HEAVILY in big enough font. Get to a new chapter and expect to spend 1-2 hours at the hub collecting quests, getting a lay of the land, figuring out the new plot angles, etc. You almost have to read your (very long) journal if you want to fully understand the plot. Sometimes the game doesn’t tell you the full outcome of your quest on camera. The game throws the world at you fast and furious. You get lots of strange names for people, kingdoms, and organizations. If you’re new to The Witcher, it’s a lot to keep straight early on. Your journal is the only thing that can really rescue you, and it will take ~2 h to read everything.

To keep this review short and avoid saying lots of blah-blah-blah. A great successor of the 1st Witcher, and a very promissing predecessor of the Wild Hunt. Enjoyed from beginning till end.

This game just got worse & worse to play; by the end I hated it. A few reasons... Leveling up: In general, combat earns squat XP. That being said you will gain a few levels from all the running back and forth from town to forest. There are 3 major skill trees & 1 minor skill tree. There are a total of 51 skills & each skill can be leveled up 2 times; for a total of 102. Your max level is 35 which leaves you with 34 talents to populate your skill tree. By the end of the game Geralt only can achieve a 33% in Witchermanship. And MAN do you ever feel it. On a vanilla run Geralt is exquisitely remedial at his profession. Expect to die. A lot. There is little narrative reason for this. Geralt in bread, borne, trained, and neutered for the job of monster hunting. There is simply no good reason for him to suck so loudly. The Economy: Not only will Geralt be forced to be an incompetent Witcher throughout the events of The Witcher 2 but, he will be broke as joke. Witcher 2 sports a savage sell back ratio of 1 to 24. Back in an era where a person could expect to only be able to afford one new set of clothes in his life time, Geralt can sell a sack of magical swords for roughly 20 Orens. Which isn’t enough for him to buy a pair of gloves. The first Witcher had a sell back ratio of 1 to 5 which is much more manageable. As with experience, money will come almost exclusively from quests. Combat earns you next to nothing. The easiest way to raise money I found was to arm wrestle. (If that isn’t a euphemism, I don’t know what is) Inventory: Geralt cannot haul more than 250 lb of crap. Which is strange because Witchers need a wide assortment of crap to witch. Perhaps there is some sort of “bag o’ holding” Geralt could employ? NO. Some spell that could help? NO. Perhaps Geralt could hire a mule? NO. But a transdimentional chest that is present in one location per chapter? Brilliant, YES. I just touched on the basics of why this game is awful. Refrigerated Gas Station Burger/10
