I had this game on the Amiga many years ago, and this remake is awesome, it's such a good remake, very faithful to the original!

Tastes change...
Back in the early 90s I was a big fan of the original game. To be honest, I even caught fire for the whole point&click genre (but I was also a Maniac Mansion and Zak McKracken fan before that). Today? Well. Certainly a nice game when you play it for the first time. The remake is quite ok. But somehow I didn't really warm up to the game anymore. The humour is somehow too adolescent for me, the pirate genre doesn't excite me anymore and, unlike in 1990, the game is not a technical quantum leap. Other titles from the 90s (and their remakes), such as Gabriel Knight - Sins of the Fathers, Full Throttle, The Dig, Blade Runner or the pixel art adventures by Wadjeteye Games or Grundislav or titles like Thimbleweed Park games can still excite me today. Tastes obviously change over time.

Nice, but rough piece of gaming history
While the charm is undeniable and the writing is enjoyable and chucklyworthy, it's playability is hampered by numerous advances and lessons in game design and how to provide the player with sufficient info to piece together the puzzles. Their is a 'get a hint' system, but it escalates very quicly from things you already have narrowed down, straigh to the actual solution. Play it mainly if you are curious about the origins of adventure games

Horrendous remake
Very very ugly remake of one of the most loved and charming adventure games ever made. Also, it is very uncomfortable to play because of a strange pop up interface for verbs and objects. Buy it only if you have no other way to get your hands on the original, and plan to play this in F10 (classic) mode.

Just get the originals not updated ver
The new art style looks like it's been done by 1st year students or ... actual monkeys perhaps. It's absolutely awful and ugly, loses all the atmosphere and feeling of the original. Monkey Island is also better without actual speech in many's opinion, because when we all played the original, it was perfect to the voices we gave characters in our minds. :)
