Grim, but philosophically curious
Who are we? What dictates our lives? Nature or Nurture? On a philosophical level 'Sir Brante' can force you to look at the world around you in a different way. More jaded probably. It could also be said the game is a refelction of its developers' mindset. If so, don't invite them for dinner or introduce them to your suicidal friend. This is a grim game and there doesn't seem to be a way of living till the end without being a servant of some awful person or group. For many people in this world, that is a reality of their lives. The game itself is well designed graphically and has a good story to tell. The voice overs are well produced, the text well written - it behaves like a modular novel where you decide [almost] what happens next. You can choose to be an honest person, a scoundrel, a cruel person or some mix of them. Whatever you choose, you will get caught up in a revolt, and in that situation there are no good choices. When you do eventually die, you are asked to justify your life before the twins, another exercise in philosophy. Good points - 1 - Thought provoking 2 - Attention to detail 3 - Slow 4 - Auto save at the end of each year so you can pick up where you left off 5 - Very well written and planned out Bad points - 1 - Grim, with a capital GRRRRR It's a game that's worth playing for the mental stimulation, for the thought-provoking look on life. If you want fun, go elsewhere. If you want a story that will have you look at life differently, give it a go. If you want to try before you buy, there is a demo. It's not for everyone and it'll be a while before I have another go, but if you like your games to leave you pondering things, then this may be for you.
