The complete collection of The Journey Down provides a fun point and click adventure series that manages to have challenging but not frustrating puzzles. Bwana is a character that could become a point & click favourite, possibly on par with Manny from Grim Fandango. While the plot of The Journey Down does hit rough spots at times, especially in the third act, the series is easily recommended to those looking for a point & click adventure game to spend time on, as well as those who like puzzle games in general.

8.5/10

The Journey Down's story is captivating, confounding, and lovable all at once, with its roots in real-life culture making it all the more unique. Chapter 3 especially feels engaging and exciting, though the tone of the game never strays from its intention. There are plot details that could do with some patching up, but ultimately it was a pleasure to play, and I would definitely recommend it for somebody looking for a point-and-click puzzle game that carries with it a breath of fresh air.

8.5/10

The Journey Down is an enjoyable adventure title that doesn't break new ground, but it doesn't need to. It's well written, has delightful art and audio, and is everything that an adventure game needs to be. The somewhat weaker first chapter drags down the experience a little, but once you get past that, The Journey Down fires on all cylinders until the end. If you grew up on LucasArts adventure titles, The Journey Down is the game for you.

Stylish, relaxing quest with big story

(Played only 1+2 part) Journey Down is point-click quest. Of course it is. But it not about pixel hunting, mind bending puzzles and "what-the-hell-i-should-do" feeling. Its about story, atmosphere and relaxing gameplay with good music and (maybe) glass of wine. So, whats its all about? You play, mainly, as naturally relaxed "rasta" mechanic (and kind-of-pilot) Bwana at small gas station on edge of big town. Business is so-so, your dad is missing for long time but you still have your bro Kito, bunch of friends around so just "relax, man". And its all gone once you meet youn girl lina searching for your father book. With her gangsters get on your tail, you have to fix you old rusty plane and get out of town just to... ...find yourself in even more dangerous and unwelcome place with even more problems and peoples chasing after you. Now, let me give some opinions. Pro: Good atmosphere, really good jazz soundtrack (i mean it!), impressive big story, a lot of memorable characters, relaxed gameplay with rare puzzles just to spice gameplay a little, no crazy illogical situation impossible to solve without going mad. Good chunk of gameplay overall, at least several hours first part, twice of that in second. Absolutely no "fail" paths or time based puzzles. Con: Much advertised "real African masks faces" is actually scarce - most characters is just usual. That makes a weird mix. A lot of game universe facts makes really big "WTF?", like constant mentionin of Edge, Mist, Hungries, Eels and so on. Where Underland actually exists, how one can sail in waterless mist? While games gradually answer some question its makes even more of them at same time. Anyway, i highly recommend it for anyone who want to play good ol' quest but dont want to bash his head at wall or search internet for tips. Relax, man.

Extremely solid Point & Click game.

(Review blatantly copy/pasted from Steam. Also as a disclaimer I've not yet played Act 3 so this review is based only on Act 1& 2.) I first learned about The Journey Down while searching for freeware adventures many years ago. Among a list of amateur made games like The White Chamber and Out Of Order, there was the little pixelated prototype of The Journey Down. I played it and i loved and i wanted more of it. So here i am, finally having played the first 2 Acts of the commercial version. And i am more than satisfied. The Journey Down is very reminiscent of Grim Fandango in the best possible way. Intriguing setting, funny dialogue, cartoony visuals, surprising amounts of world-building. It provides everything i am looking for in a Point'n'Click game. Puzzles are pleasantly intuitive. There were only two times i had to resort to a walkthrough. First time because i overlooked an interactable spot. A hotspot indicator would have been a useful addition to avoid small annoyances like that. Second time was the very last puzzle of Act 2, which sadly is one of those abritrary idiotic pictogram reading and switch pushing puzzles. You know, like everything in the final area of Syberia 2. Ugh. The music accentuates the reggae atmosphere nicely. The voice acting is unfortunately rather uneven. The main character's VA is perfect for the role, everyone else ranges from passable to terrible. The audio quality itself fluctuates quite heavily as well, i had a hard time understanding certain characters.

A Point and Click game that has it all!

After playing Grim Fandango Remastered, I was looking for another point and click with the depth of characters and storyline that made Grim so enjoyable. Well The Journey Down Trilogy is easily just as good and with the more modern graphics and a great musical score a real treat for the eyes and ears. I played the first two chapters and what made this game flow was the just right amount of challenges in the puzzles or figuring out situations to be able to use the inventory. However, I admit that until i got the flow and really paid attention to the dialogues, for the first two, I did occasionally need a hint from a walkthough. However, by the time I played Chapter 3, I had it down and did not have to "cheat" one time. The characters all have unique personalities and the voices chosen and the acting fit them perfectly. The story is told in depth and really immerses you, rather than glossing over it to get to the action so to speak. The reggae inspired score, rasta accents and lighthearted joking was totally refreshing from the usual game adventures. This game is great and I look forward to seeing Bwana and Kito again. I give it a 10/10.

When a pilot with fear of hights flies

If you are a point and click adventure fan you shouldn't skip this trilogy. It's been a while since 1st and 2nd parts were released and now, finally, the finale! Story, puzzle quality, voiceovers, music is all there. With it's unique art style, spot on humor and loads of reggae music to boot, I'm sure The Journey Down will win your heart.

Beautiful story and fun adventure

I love the characters, and graphics, the music, and the story. After complete the trilogy, I really missed the warm and caring Makena and the happy go lucky Bwana and Tiko. This the the second game that bring me tears after Grim Fandango.
