Solve mind-bending puzzles in a world full of mystery and save the family of the flute-noses!

The flute nose dynasty has been watching over Asposia for centuries on end. In secret, they fill the roly-poly world with light and life. Emil, a trader for odds and ends, has led all the Asposians astray, making them believe that the dynasty is in cahoots with dark forces. Seriously, who knows what this weird family is doing day in, day out? The only one who could stop evil Emil is the heir to the flute nose throne: Robert. He has been petrified for three years, though. With a huge dose of enthusiasm, but little to no idea what he’s actually doing, he embarks on an adventure to find the legendary last wind monk. Of course, he has some great company: Peck, as loyal as he is flightless, and Laura, a rebel who certainly does fly, but only off the handle and who is Robert’s love with a capital L, by the way. A final ray of hope is provided by the mysterious Mama Dola, who seems to know more about Robert’s destiny than Robert himself…

Our primary criticism of the first game has been addressed, making The Last Wind Monk a much easier recommendation. Experimentation is now a breeze with touch controls and the expanded possibilities offered by character-switching mean puzzles feel more varied. It maintains the original's great writing and presentation, but offers a far better all-round experience, making it the best entry point for Switch owners into the eccentric world of Asposia.

The Inner World: The Last Wind Monk is far from being a bad adventure, game but it is nowhere near as good as some other recent releases. Neither the story or the characters really grab you, and some main characters even become unlikable. One of the few saving graces are the puzzle designs themselves which are put together really well. The balance is skewed toward the puzzles, while the story it is wrapped in becoming quite a forgettable and a boring affair at times.

Weird is an understatement

The art is fantastic and the writing is very creative, but the dialog is incredibly awkward. Some of the puzzles are ingenious but others are just...WHAT?! It's like the game is stuck somewhere between Monkey Island and Limbo of the Lost. Sometimes you'll know what you're supposed to be doing but the way the game wants you to go about putting everything together is too obscure. Sometimes you're just supposed to guess until you get the right answer (doll on shelves, pipes, knocking game) which gets annoying when the game decides to make some of the dialog unskippable. The game's also got some explicitly adult humor that feels out of place given its storybook art style. It just adds to the awkwardness.
