Bad Timing
As much as I like Bethesda's games, they do rely heavily on the modding community to make them better, Skyrim is no exception. Bethesda already made one mistake, they did the Second Edition, this made a lot of mods obsolete, and the modders had already moved on to new games, so they did't update for the new Skyrim. Some were backwards compatible, many weren't. The second issue, GOG just got the game way too late, while SKSE has made a GOG version, some of the SE mods just won't work right with the GOG version of SKSE, such as racemenu, which is an essential mod, it is required for many body and armor mods, without it, those mods won't work and there's no guarantee those modders haven't retired. In short, GOG just got this game too late. I mean it would be like GOG finally getting Sims 2, there'd be no point since Sims games are all about modding, and most Sims 2 modding sites are gone..
