A Sci-Fi Classic Buried in Pixels

The Dig is, in my opinion, a high point for science fiction in the history of point-and-click games. Not that I’ve played many others, but I base this claim purely on the quality of this one. The grandeur of the story is matched by an incredible soundtrack and remarkable dialogue throughout. It draws you in and piques your curiosity, enveloping you in a shroud of mystery that makes you lose track of time and space. The puzzles only add to that mystery, but what I enjoyed about them is that even if you struggle for what feels like hours, once you understand the logic, the solution is within reach. It also helps that your options are limited, which sometimes forces you to think creatively. The art is decent, but the cutscenes elevate the visual experience. At times, it feels like watching a movie, which makes sense, given that the game was originally envisioned as a film. I highly recommend playing The Dig; it’s a captivating experience. While it can be frustrating at times, that frustration feels appropriate, given the scale and mystery of the story being told.

An oldschool adventure

A pretty good game in typical Adventure style based upon adventure games like they were back on Amiga and early PC days. That means you get pre assigned backgrounds and meddle with numerous riddles while your character walks among the screens. The story is rather neat though I find it somewhat lacking in it's execution everything felt a bit monotone after the main cast has been driven onto an Alien world. The characters appeared somewhat emotionless for the wonders they just discovered. I wont spoil anything of the story but the initial goal is it to divert an Asteroid on collision course with Earth only that it is not a regular Asteroid. And only you can figure out the mysteries behind the Asteroid. The gameplay is rather good and flawless for a game it's age and worthy of holding the title of a scifi novel adventure dating back to the early days of adventure games. In many ways it's similar to game series such as Space Quest & Kings Quest. The game has many tough riddles but nothing to serious either, Still on some locations I had to use a walkthrough in order to advance. So if you're not into this kind of stuff better avoid it. If you are however a fan of riddles feel free to try it out now. The prize is very cheap and fair so no matter what you wont lose. Go and get it.

Worth the play, not the greatest

A great, but not perfect, point and click. The atmosphere, music, and scenery were breathtaking. The story was unique and I enjoyed playing the game. I would've gotten too frustrated without a guide, as some of the puzzles are seriously convoluted and some options won't become available unless specific (and sometimes, unclear) connections are made. Definitely recommend if you like point and clicks!

Fun adventure, a bit monotonous at times

I still have my original copy of the game from when it first came out, but never actually played it. I saw it here, and got it on sale, and decided to buy to get a copy that would work on my modern computer. Fun, old fashioned point and click adventure. But as the game progresses you end up going back and forth between many locations you've already been to collect stuff. This gets very monotonous knowing where you need to go but needing to "walk" through a bunch of screens just to get there, and then back to your original location. Even with the shortcuts the game provides, it's too much walking.
