The Curse of Monkey Island™

at the time i didn't quite know what to expect. it seemed an awful lot of years had passed since lechuck's revenge. gone were the years on which lucasarts was incapable of doing a bad game (not by much, though). the first two games were so legendary, and of course, no ron gilbert. plus, not exactly every brilliant disk-based series was making a good transition to cd-based games. turns out, no need to worry at all. i wouldn't say it got to be as insanely perfect as the previous two, but the fact that it could even be compared was a wonder. the graphics and sound were not only much better, but really beautiful. and it was really a laugh a minute, with a strictly classic lucasarts structure and puzzles on very much the same level of wonderful insanity. and, at the price you're offering it, i'd say it's a total no-brainer. that's good, we'll need the brain for playing!

Great game, thank you for this gem. This is by far my favorite in the series. Seriously, if you like goofy humor, some hard puzzles and a good story, you will like it. And if you like monkey island, well, why are you reading this gibberish? Go ingame! If you are looking for a new game, give Deponia 1-3 a go - and if you like that, also Deponia 4: Doomsday. I can only say that the original language (german) is best, just like english is best with Monkey Island. Like always, a translation will never capture the charm of the original idea - usually carfully worded in the mother tongue. Guybrush is a much more likable character than Rufus! Other than that I can only recommend this to anyone wo likes this series.

Curse of Monkey Island was one of the first point-and-click adventure games I ever played, way back on one of the first Windows computers I owned in the misty distant past of 1997. It remains, twenty years later, one of my very favourite ones despite having played both its predecessors, its sequels, and most of the Lucasart catalogue since. The soundtrack is brilliant, the voicework and characters hilarious, the puzzles intuitive and fun, and the Sid Meier's Pirates minigame in act 3 makes for a fun little genre shift interlude. About the only complaint I can muster for this release is that an mp3 soundtrack is not included in the extras.

This is the Adventure game I'd always wanted in the '90s, but never knew existed; thank GOG it's available here! The game just oozes that '90s Adventure charm, especially in its lovely visual style. The world has a lovely design that makes it a joy to explore, and very memorable scenarios. The humor is also top-notch; I haven't laughed at a game like this in quite some time. Highly recommended to fans of the genre and the era!

As much as I love the first two games and the original writing team, Curse of Monkey Island is - for me - the best game of the series. It has all of the charm and hardly any rage-inducing 'how the hell was I supposed to know to do that with the monkey' puzzles. I actually bought a replacement disc copy about a month before this (finally) came out on GOG, but it's absolutely worth buying here because the original game has some weird compatibility issues with modern PCs.
