Opis

The Complete Season of The Council grants you access to all 5 episodes.

The Council is an episodic game like no other. Delivering a fresh new take on the Narrative Adventure, your choices and character growth truly matter. Make hard-hitting decisions, but also develop an array of skills to directly impact how the story unfolds. With permanent, long-lasting consequences, there is no going back. Plunge into a tale of intrigue and manipulation in the style of a classic murder mystery, living with a cast of alluring characters each hiding their own dark secrets. Trust no one while uncovering dire truths – no matter the cost to mind and body.

The Council begins in 1793, with players taking the role of secret society member Louis de Richet after his invitation to a private island off the shores of England by the enigmatic Lord Mortimer. Joining him are a number of high profile guests, including Napoleon Bonaparte and President of the newly-formed United States of America, George Washington. The strange nature of this private reception goes beyond just the prestigious guests –Richet’s own mother has recently gone missing on the island, while each and every one of the colorful cast seems to have their own hidden agendas.

In a new twist for the genre, the core of The Council’s gameplay comes from manipulating and maneuvering through character encounters using the unique Social Influence system. During confrontations, skills and limited resources can be used to gain the upper hand and achieve the desired outcome. Players will be rewarded for their knowledge of each character’s psychological vulnerabilities and immunities, as well as their preparations made during prior exploration and investigation. Failing an encounter does not mean ‘game over’, and no action can be taken back. The consequences are permanent, and may result in persistent physical disfigurements or mental traits that help or hinder the rest of the player’s adventure.

Richet’s numerous skills can be developed to align with your chosen approach to the adventure. Solve issues with diplomacy, delve into occultism to expand your historical and scientific knowledge, or play detective and see what others do not perceive. Your skills will have uses that extend far beyond your conversations with fellow guests. With 15 diverse skills to use and invest in, players are free to uncover The Council’s mysteries how they see fit, with wildly varying consequences depending on their methods. The results will forever alter the life of Louis de Richet, of those around him, and shape history as we know it.

A Great Choice-Consequence Game

First off, the setting is absolutely captivating and one of the most original I've seen in a narative adventure. To make that better, the story and dialogue which guide you through it are, for the most part, well-written and voice-acted. The choice-consequence aspect is generally satisfying. There are multiple different endings as well as paths that greatly alter the story. Though there were a few moments that felt limited, it was never to the point of lossing agency. As a previous reviewer said, this is essentially the game Telltale could've made if they did one project at a time instead of six. The visuals. Good God this is a mixed bag. The character design is good, the enviroment design is brilliant, but the technical side fails to do it justice. It really is a shame to see a meticulously crafted room with high-quality assets ruined by aliasing, poor quality shadows and lack of HDR. Even with these flaws the game manages to be aesthetically pleasing a good part of the time, but the aformentioned problems are often too distracting to appreciate the design someone was going for. Sticking with theme of technical issues, the game has bugs. The ones I've encountered the most of are audio issues. voice-lines getting cut off and music tracks playing when they shouldn't be (making some scenes unintentionally hilarious). Both happened rarely so they weren't that annoying. The only serious one I've had is a game crash which corrupted my save in the process. I suggest making backups every so often to spare yourself that experience. So, taking into account all these issues, why am I giving it a maximum rating? Because as a choice-consequence narrative adventure it truly shines as one of the best the genre has to offer. If you're going into it to experience and influence a story and are willing to looks past some techical hiccups, you will get your money's worth.

Awesome adventure !

I have this on Steam and i played it once. What a awesome adventure it was. The graphics are quite good even if the art style could be weird for some. Good sound, good stories, nice choices. Absolutely a buy.

Loved it, highly recommended.

Council is a great game. It is well written and interesting. The characters are distinctive and relatable. I also really liked the voice acting. I agree with other reviewers who say that the first chapters are batter than the last ones. But overall it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

inconsistent lazy wasted potential

French, sponsored by EU and CNC, as you can expect : nice images, nice paintings, visually pleasing, a bit some sort of contemporary Versailles 1685, lip-sync quite off, crash like hell (never seen a game crashing so often, seriously), terrible user interface (a disorganized index of characters is named a "journal") overly manicheist understanding of History beyond some pretention sophisticated vernish (not even mentioning conceptual errors like confusing democracy and republic while mentioning Theseus, authors claim christian crusades were the starting point of religious wars - as if any war in most of history was not half-colored by religion like everything else, as if even this first crusade they discuss was unrelated to previous attacks of the Oriental romain empire by muslims), lazy confused inconsistent main plot (beside the conspirationist rant, they could have built real plot, instead of some esotheric easy bullcrap - back again to manicheism ) that end über-ridiculously, but puzzles are decently made. As other pointed out, later episodes seems much worse than previous. A considerable part of episode 4 consist about walking back and forth on the same path as before (including a labyrinth), for instance. Typos were not even checked (volWöllner or Won Wöllner ?). An six letter code to type? 3 clicks and the same dialog to input for each of these six characters. And it even crash even more often (to the point that giving more than 1/5 is not an option), bugs even more stupid (de-doubling?). And everything seems half-done: on a same room, one window door is not clickable, the other is there with a minus, while previously you could at least try to open such windows. I wonder how exactly EU and CNC funding played a role in this game development.

From Bible studies to... Wonderland..?

-Expectations- The first time I saw this game I was immediately curious. The time it is set in, the atmosphere and the game mechanics all caught my attention. However, money spend is money spend, so I looked at other reviews. A lot of people complain about a game breaking bug, bad lip sync and an ending that is questionable at best. -The Game itself- Sadly, it is not possible to change the graphic settings of this game, aside from the resolution. However, this does not cause any problems performance wise. The characters in the game can be a bit dull and predictable, but are nonetheless amusing enough. Each character has a section with information about them and even though the game encourages the player to learn more about the characters, the information on them never updates. That's a shame. The story is an interesting one. During the first 3 chapters you are wondering where the story is going to go and where it will end. During these chapters the game uses a lot of content from the Bible. From Psalms to paintings with Biblical themes. It fits the game perfectly. In the 4th chapter things take a slightly different turn. Without spoiling anything for people who want to give this game a shot; I can understand why this chapter ruined the game for some people. It didn't for me. It gave me a somewhat Alice in Wonderland Madness Returns vibe. I was fine with that, maybe I even loved it. I have to say, however, that the ending of the game is rushed and does not really fit the somewhat slow pace of the rest of the game. Every choice you make DOES matter, which means that this game is worth playing a second or even a third time. I took my time with this game and finished it in about 22 hours. For the complaints I read before playing. The lip sync in my game was perfectly fine and I didn't encounter any game breaking bug. I would definitely recommend this game for someone who is looking for a fun game with puzzles and an interessting take on a darker story.
