I agree - it is a masterpiece!

A must-play for any horror fan. I didn't know what to expect going in, and the graphics and simple controls feel a little odd at first, but soon you will be sucked into the characters and story. It is a slow building arc, with a lot of dialog. At times, the dialog does get a little drawn out, but hang in there - the scenes of fear, horror and tension make it all worthwhile. The story is sad but engaging, and horrifyingly gruesome without being needlessly gory. It's a chilling experience, exactly what you look for in a horror game. It does have bits and pieces of humor, which serve to make the characters more relatable and ease some of the tension. The music and sound effects were fantastic, and the animations, while not high budget, were used well, from the slow approach of your enemies, to the way you creepily stumble around when drugged. The puzzles were pretty standard point-and-click fare with a terror twist. No complaints there. We had a 10-15 hour experience with the game, and each night after work we ran to it. I miss it now that it is over! I got it on sale, but I feel it is worth the full price and then some. Maniac Mansion fans - you will love one of the chapters in this. What a joy that was! If you are a horror fan and have patience to play a story-based game, don't hesitate to pick this one up.

The Perfect Game

I rarely have the privilege to play a game as deep and interesting as The Cat Lady. Beyond the simple adventure game mechanics lies a dark and absorbing story. This is an experience that should not be missed. Never have I felt so much empathy towards a character in any game. This is a game that brought tears to my eyes. The story is very complex and the dialogue choices make a difference in how the game progresses. The puzzles are unique and the items needed actually make sense. The whole game is played using the arrow keys and the enter button which allows the player to sit back and just enjoy the story as it unfolds. I can only hope to see more games from this developer because there is a guaranteed sale from at least one very satisfied gamer. The soundtrack is made specifically for this game, it is one of the best scores I have ever heard. I bought the soundtrack, which is a full 70 minute album, after hearing the quality of the songs. If you want an experience instead of just a game look no further. I cannot recommend a game any higher that this.

Brilliant

Even though I initially wanted to buy the game simply for its title, The Cat Lady turned out to be one of the finest games I've played in years. Although the voice acting occasionally falters, the eerily perfect soundtrack, brilliantly suitable art, and the darkly gripping story more than makes up for it. Ultimately, the player can't help being moved by this darkly hopeful story.

Hardcore!

This game is awesome. The graphics are completely dated and the controls are old school keyboard driven. But the story, characters, and twisted events are incredibly well done. This game is downright horrific, and I'm not talking like Dead Space or Fear. I'm talking Silence of the Lambs type stuff. The game is very realistic as far as story and character writing goes, and takes you on an emotional journey as you experience Susan's life. The voice acting is excellent, with just the right emphasis and tone in every line. The music is good too, lot of rock to it with vocals. The game is general quiet other than ambient sounds, but the music picks up just at the right time for that theatrical effect. You'll find yourself cringing at certain points, like watching a horror movie. The killers in this game are some really twisted individuals and you'll feel a real disgust for them. Most of the puzzles are easy in this game, which works out pretty well as 90% of the enjoyment is progressing the story, more so then bashing your head on a wall solving a plethora of puzzles. It plays like some kind of movie, where you get sucked in and can't wait to see how it all ends. If you enjoy well written dialog and an exceptional story, then I highly, highly, recommend this game. Seriously, stop reading this and buy it, you can thank me later.

As an horror fan and adventure game fan

*My first review ever in GOG* This game was the best Adventure / Horror game I've played in the recent years! Gameplay is awesome, you can play just with the arrow keys and has NO pixel hunting. You won't need a Walkthrough for the game, it's fairly easy if you keep up your attention. Story and characters are fantastic, I fell in love with the 2 main female characters, they were so well worked on. This game made me feel that Silent Hill 2 vibe all over again. I recommend it to horror game lovers, adventure game lovers, and great story lovers. Game is perfect in my eyes, and I can't wait for the next game from R. Michalski.
