I know I'll sound fanboyish, but this gem is truly worth it. I don't remember being so immersed in any game since Planescape: Torment (and that was 14 years ago... I feel old). It's a story of depression and restoration, friendship and betrayal, love and cruelty - all painted in red with classic horror themes. If you are a psychological horror fan - buy without hesitation. If you're not sure - research, read reviews, see it in action in the demo or in Let's Play and decide if it suits you (I know, it's not for everybody).
Great addition to GOG catalogue and important position on my virtual shelf.

This game just blew me away. I didn't expect much of it - I thought it's just a indie-game with cool style. How wrong I was..
The game has a really, really good story, which is almost relateable. The themes and things that are discussed in the game are shocking and really dark - still there's plenty of humor.
It's also remarkable that the game has so easy and simple controls - usualy indie-games go nuts with the UI.
And to top it all, the music and the voice acting are spot on.
A game rally worth while to play. It's enjoyable and you can't really fail in this game. I was really surprised how long this game is! Must buy from this decade
Got to say I have some personal experience with some of the themes presented here & at times I can relate to what is being displayed, at other times this game just baffles me.
There is a serious approach to depression/suicidal tendencies but at the same type there is this supernatural element combined with most of the disturbing scenes. A good portion of the game is spent with these encounters but they don't flow too well with the more quiet, emotional moments.
The writing is alright, being proper moody and all, but in the end it wasn't as convincing as I had hoped it would be - no thanks to the (literal) hell trips that just felt out of place.
The game got a few technical issues too - clunky UI, lacking widescreen-support, weird scaling options and tearing to name a few. The presentation varies wildly in quality, nice looking locations and sound design creating atmospheric moments while the sprite work and animation is downright terrible with a weird blur effect happening from time to time. A good thing is that actual gameplay doesn't get much in the way of the story presentation.
All in all, The Cat Lady is a bit of a hit and miss combined with the technical issues it's a 3/5 for me.
It takes a lot for a game to make me want to comment - but I eventually managed to tear myself away from it long enough to tell the friends I knew would appreciate a game with good pacing, scripting and design to go and check it out immediately; and to write this review, of course. My initial thoughts upon seeing the trailer was 'Silent Hill as a point and click adventure', but it goes a bit beyond that, with a believable main character and an art style that echoes the 30 Days of Night comic series.
It won't be the hardest game in the world for anyone who's had experience with adventure games, and it can be quite dialogue-heavy in places, but it's all well-written and well-acted (my only gripe was at one point you could clearly hear the mic used to record the voice of one character picked up the pops whenever she said anything with a 'b' or 'p' in it, but it's a minor event) and the atmosphere and story it spins are worth the price of admission alone. I could go on, but I really must go back to exploring this dank, depressing yet beautifully realised world.
It's entertaining in a high-school-goth-phase kind of way but that's also the kind of cheesy that makes The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo seem subtle. You play a suicidal middle-aged woman turned unkillable vigilante that learns to deal with her depression by hunting down serial killers (comprised of her entire apartment complex) with the help of a scrappy goth sidekick (complete with a tragic backstory). It's the sort of campy where a door-to-door florist brains you with a hammer but then you reanimate and feed him to your cats while playing the piano. It's heartfelt but inconsistent tonally in not being able to decide how real or fantastical the horror elements are. Looking past the story however and seeing it purely as an adventure game it's a very competent and engrossing experience. The art style is abstract but the puzzles are logical and it never becomes frustrating. If you're a horror fan it's definitely worth your time but while entertaining it never feels like a game that truly thinks outside the box.
This game is waiting for a review. Take the first shot!
