PROS:
The art style is very inspired, very dark and gritty. The characters are well written and the story feels much more dynamical than the average pont'n'click adventure.
I also liked the very light inventory (the protagonist himself says he doesn't want to carry too much stuff around, unlike in some Lucasarts adventures, where you can waste a lot of time trying to figure out what you have to use in an overpacked inventory).
CONS:
I don't understand why the start menu has to move so much (I have to say that there is very little to set up, so you won't spend much time in the menu).
Speaking of setup, no options for 4K resolution (minor flaw, I know, but still...)
The puzzles are quite simple (helps to keep the story going, but it's not what you expect from a point'n'click adventure) and the english translation is not perfect
Definetly a great game that's worth your time and money
If you're attracted to this game for the comic art style, get it. That's what first drew me in and the visuals were indeed worth the price of admission.
The story was a pleasant surprise. This is a very low budget affair with a linear story, some terrible translations, cringy dialogue, janky gameplay. abrupt tone shifts, and sometimes hilarious and incongruent mini-games.
But there's a fascinating and honest heart beating under it. The other reviewer who compared it to a spiritual sequel to Deus Ex isn't exaggerating. As it is, The Blind Prophet felt like playing through the storyboard or trailer version of what that game would have been. But that's nothing to laugh at; very few games even reach or try to reach that level. Jank and all, the creators have made a thoughtful, enjoyable and atmospheric game.
This game is a point and click adventure game and it has a lot going for it.
First off, the art style is awesome. Gritty, mature, comic style art. It has lots of detail and is a pleasure throughout the entire game.
The soundtrack doesnt let up either. It has the same gritty, mature style, but varies greatly based on the circumstances youre in. It is just as awesome as the graphics.
The story in itself is pretty good too. You are an apostle sent from heaven to clean up a city tainted by demons. And of course, things get messy along the way.
Aside from the point and click part of the game, where you need to look around for appropriate items and have dialogues with characters, there are also puzzles and minigames from time to time. Theyre not necessarily complex or difficult, but theyre almost always varied and provide variety and keep things fresh.
The menu and interface are alright, nothing special, but they dont matter that much here.
There are also some grammatical errors in the English language version and that could be annoying sometimes. The game was made in France.
There are, however, a couple of significant downsides in this game.
The writing has issues. There are some moments regarding pacing and interactions that feel a bit off or that could have been done better. But what is really at issue are the dialogues. They seem very amateurish, some conversations felt pretty out of place. What bothered me most is that I couldnt get a proper feel for the main character. His dialogues fluctuated from being righteous, serious, goofy, slapstick. Considering the tone of the game, they should have stuck with him being mostly serious and focused on his mission.
But the most dissapointing part is that the game is cut short by what I feel was about a third to half of what it should have been. The story cuts short quite quick and the ending is rushed. Its very dissapointing.
However, it is still a great point and click game for a mature audience and I highly recommend it.
This game is not really a game. I'd consider it as an interactive movie with minigames. It's not even very long. However - the overal experience is great. Nice story, beautiful drawings and audio provide some dark-sin-city immersive experience.
Dissappointment. Very nice visuals but that's mainly it. Premise could be interesting if Constanine didn't ever exist. Characters are really weak and not very interesting. Plot is kinda generic. And gameplay, oh lord. I didn't finish the game because if you trigger some action when you've already completet some task this action can trigger a task from when you played two hours ago and you basically rewinded in the game without possibility to load anything. Drama.
This game is waiting for a review. Take the first shot!
