Treat for Fans...

If you are a huge fan of the Terminator franchise like me then this game is a must have. If you are not then you likely will be left feeling like this game needed more content and polish. As such I would love to give this game 3.5 starts out of 5, but 3 and 4 are my only choices, so as a fan 4 it is. That said what this game does well is Atmosphere. The world is beautiful, and the graphics were better than I had hoped for. I played at the highest settings in 4K, so your take on graphics may not be the same as mine however. The sound track while simple pays homage to the original film and it's perfect. The detail in the weapons you carry is better than in the films, and they recreated the future scenario of a war torn USA as man battles Machine and appears to be loosing that fight. It's a world built around the time in the 1st movie that was showing the future complete with the various Skynet machines seen in the future sequences. On the other hand the game is not flawless, while voice acting is good some of the characters (Jennifer in particular) make some very lacking and off looking expressions in dialog scenes. The shooting while well done is nothing outstanding or new. And the game play is short. I got 18hrs out of it total and that is with 100% achievements . I did use some stealth which adds time to your play through, and I did listen to all the dialog. With the exception of Ryan's last lines, which when attempting to speak to him caused a fatal error CTD every time. So I had to forgo that (sadly as he was the most interesting of the side characters. The crafting is shallow and feels tacked on. You can just skip it entirely as I did and I never had need for ammo or anything else you can craft. The skill tree is pretty basic and with some effort (and/or dropped skill books) you can get all the skills. I had 2 leves left to go only in crafting when I completed the game. and the 1st 3 levels of crafting were only taken when the rest was done anyways.

Worthy addition to the Terminator world

I'll be buying this on GOG once I can stump up the cash, so I'm writing this off the back of a 100% completed Steam copy. This game nails so much of what it sets out to achieve that it's a genuine mystery why the critical reception is so poor, in contrast to the generally positive player feedback. While some of the graphical fidelity can be poorly implemented or optimised in a few corners, the overall art style is consistently represented throughout and is so damn-near perfect that it really does feel like you've been dropped into the 'Future War' scenes from the first two Terminator films. The designs, colours and sound design are spot-on, and there is even a bit of variety drawing from some of the newer films to mix things up. The gameplay is solid too, although I'd put an asterix on that statement. The gunplay is decently balanced, and players also have agency in whether or not they choose to take a stealth approach to most combat encounters, both approaches drawing on the tense themes of the films and expanded universe. Where the gameplay might irk some players is in the implementation of the more 'open level' designs, and the allusion to a branching story. Neither is badly done, but there was definitely room for some more iteration on the ideas they presented. I would gladly give this game 5 stars despite this because the experience is such a genuine delight that even with the few spots where the game drags, the overall quality is consistently fantastic and the dev's love of and passion for the IP shines through in just about every aspect. Side note: if you can, definitely grab the 'Annihilation Line' DLC too. It's a fantastic addition to the main game and a solid jam from start to finish.

A wonderful surprise

I played Terminator: Resistance on Steam, unfortunately I don't think it was on GOG right from the start. I really liked it! The atmosphere is great, especially if you are a fan of the movies. The missions are pretty good and so is the combat, although you need to play at least on hard to make it more interesting. You also earn experience which you can invest in various skills, like in an RPG (e.g. hacking, explosives, etc.). You have dialog choices in your interaction with the main characters and there is also some romance, how nice is that! You really get to care for the characters. The slight negatives are the outdated graphics and rather lazy AI. Overall this game was a very nice surprise for me as a long time Terminator fan, I wonder why it had so little advertising. For me it was definitely worth the full price despite its flaws. Hope to see a sequel!

I loved it - my first review ever :)

I've loved the game. It's not perfect. It could be longer. There are minor balance problems (tons of ammunition). Weapons that are probably unusable. It doesn't look like positive review, but nevertheless the game is perfect. It has an excellent atmosphere. You really feel the "terminator" feeling :). Music is a tuned version of original soundtrack, but that tuning is astounding. If you played old terminator games, watched the movie, than it's a must have. You won't be disappointed.

A great Terminator game

This game is surprisingly good and easily the gaming experience that fans have been waiting for. It's not perfect, mind you, but the few minuses it does have don't ruin the experience (for most people, at least, as preferences do vary). Elements to consider: - Storyline: Not amazing, but fits perfectly well within the Terminator universe and links very well with the first two movies. If you agree that Terminator movies past the second were disappointing at best, then you'll love this story. Lots of familiar elements, Easter Eggs galore, great atmosphere, great music. - Characters: You won't find deep philosophical thoughts here, but the characters illustrate the Terminator universe quite well. They all have some background story, which is nice, and this makes them work well in the context. - Gameplay: The mechanics are mostly tried and true and work well. The weapons feel right. Difficulty is ok: regular robots aren't a big threat, but the Terminators can wipe the floor with you if you underestimate them. AI can feel clunky at times, but is generally ok. - Graphics: It's not the latest and greatest, but it does the job well. The Terminator universe on show is believable and the atmosphere is great. - Sound: Absolutely amazing! They use the original sounds from the first two movies and everything sounds absolutely perfect, especially the plasma weapons. Character voices are passable at worst, but decent in general and even good at times. - Single Player Campaign: Semi-open world - this encourages players to explore and you will be rewarded if you do. You can easily take dozens of hours to finish the campaign if you explore surroundings and engage with characters. True to the movies, the future's not set: there are multiple endings based on the choices you make. I got this game at full price and I honestly don't regret it. If you catch this thing on sale, then it's a must buy. I hope to see more Terminator games like this one.
