SWAT 4: Gold Edition

At last available on GOG! Have voted for it on multiple request lists here on GOG and now it is available! YES! This is the best tactical FPS I have ever played. I was playing this game for years back in the day. The single player campaign is excellent and the online multiplayer gaming part is excellent too. This is a must for every FPS sim tactical gamer out there. It is on my top tactical games list such as Arma 3, Insurgency, Squad. I wish someone makes a new version of this game with more modern game mechanics. Buy it now.

Definitely capitalizes on SWAT 3. The atmosphere is absolutely stunning. There are two levels in particular where you get real creeped out. It is weird that a lot of the music in the game is very horror themed. Action is quick and easy. It's hilarious hearing your teammates all shouting, "FREEZE! HANDS UP! GET ON THE GROUND!" at some stubborn civilian. The "Hey boss, you're in my spot" crap is annoying. Highly recommended.

While he visuals seem dated and the gunplay doesn't boast the likes of ironsight, SWAT 4 is one of thhe most intense and smartest shooting games out there, with impressive AI that even has the capacity to be controlled by your voice commands (via Elite mod, which unlocks the unreleased feature) almost perfectly. It's almost entirely streamined after the mess of a control system in SWAT 3, which is very much a good thing, and controls like a breeze. his is one of the few games that actually plays better in single player than multiplayer, though. Not because the multiplayer is badly implemented, just that it's a lot more fun to almost directly control your squad mates.

From its realistic weapons to tactics and communications, SWAT 4 is, as the title says, a truly unique experience. I would honestly pay a lot for this, it is a truly great game, and you don't need a good system to run it. I can run it on an all-in-one PC with an i3 and only integrated graphics. It doesn't have a storyline or anything of the sort, but it doesn't need one. It is realistic yet easy to hop into, and includes a few references here and there to Police Quest, Sierra's series mainly for MS DOS. I can't really explain it much, just get it. Get it now. It is a brilliant game.

SWAT 4 is a unique beast. A shooter that emphasizes NOT shooting people. By sticking somewhat to police procedure, it has created a room-to-room slow paced tactical experience in a way no other has. I found myself physically tensing up as I leveled my weapon at an armed suspect and said aloud "Don't be an idiot, put it down!" My roommate gave me a very strange look as he couldn't see what I was doing, but that was the point I realized this game had it's hooks in me. The tension, the tactics, and yes, the failure. If you play SWAT 4, you will die. A corner camping bad guy will drop your entire squad, a slight delay in the games calculations will cause a perp to kill you just as you pull the trigger, be prepared to fail. That being said, it never stopped me playing. Missions are delectable bite-sized experiences and failure only makes me mad enough to go back in. The second time you'll know the layout better, the third you'll know where guys like to spawn, after that it's just a matter of careful thinking, good aim and good reaction time. Besides, the failure is half of the fun! Eventually, you'll stop grumbling and start laughing. Some of the ways you can completely botch a room breaching will leave you rolling on the floor, particularly in multiplayer. In closing, if you're a shooter fan, a tactics fan, or just find yourself wandering around your house with a finger gun, sweeping rooms and yelling "Police! Get down!" because you're bored, I recommend playing SWAT 4, at long last released on GOG. tl;dr: Yelled for a black guy to get down, he ran, shot him in the back, mission failed due to unauthorized use of deadly force against a civilian. 0/10 least realistic police simulation ever.
