3D coating of paint with bad balancing

If you come into this game expecting it to be like stronghold crusaders 1, you are going to be severely disappointed. They made the graphics and the playstyle of the game "3D" to match a playstyle similar to age of mythology, but they absolutely butchered the combat in this game. Archers shoot hugs and kisses — damage wise. The melee in this game is weird. They meet up face to face, then unorganically spread out to fight. I can't describe it much more beyond that but basically, stacking troops on top of each other to hold chokes like in the 1st game doesn't work. They did improve the physics to sieging so siege machines are a plus in this game. Aside from siege machines, combat is pure Blah. Also the 1-liners from your favorite characters aren't present in this game. If you come to this game treating it as a spinoff of the first crusaders, you'll love it. If you expect it to be a successor, you're going to be sadly letdown.

Challenging, but many possibilities

Game has such a high amount of possibilities when using map editor. Music used in this game is great. The game really feels like you are proceeding on from the previous games of stronghold, and proves a big challenge. Only problem is that my default settings put graphics on it's lowest, and some items in map editor can lead to an instant crash if you are unaware what the building does and where it's meant to be used. I played 2-3 years until finally completing the last skirmish trail mission on normal difficulty.

Welcome to the desert!

Stronghold Crusader 2 is a real time strategy game set during the crusades, it has a stronger focus on combat as the ingame economy has been streamlined from the other Stronghold games. You are charged to provide food and entertainment for your workers who, in turn, form the backbone of your economy. Mine Stone, extract pitch, farm wheat, or chop wood. Once your stockpile has a steady flow of raw goods you are ready to refine them into weapons, drink, or processed food types. A strong economy is mandatory to support an ever growing military. On the militant side of the game you have one of the hallmarks of the Stronghold franchise, entirely modular defense system. The map has a grid superimposed upon it which is used to align and place structures. Each wall is placed piece by piece, every tower and gatehouse where you want them. Lay traps such as killing pits and pitch ditches for your enemies and garrison your archers atop your great towers. There are many defensive and offensive tactics to experiment with, sally forth and meet your enemy in the field or bring the fight to your castle and employ traps and tower mounted siege engines to your advantage. In skirmish mode the base objective is to kill all enemy lords, although multiplayer games have a greater range of victory conditions. The single player campaign has custom objectives and scripted invasions/events. When Steam Workshop becomes available for Stronghold Crusader 2 players will be able to create and share their own skirmish maps and custom missions.

An oldie but a goldie!

...I think I've said enough but I guess your asking for a review so I guess I'll do it. Great RTS game. Easy to play but also really fun to play. I REALLY like how the fighting is (especially when your castle is being sieged). A little bit glitchy but only a little bit. Would recommend to anyone ( but you should probably buy it on sale).
