A shaky port of a great game

While it is Street Fighter Alpha 2, there are absolutely no bells and whistles and i wouldnt recommend this over the far superior Sega Saturn version, although the chances of anyone reading this actually owning a Saturn are rather slim. this is a straight up re-release of the PC version from the mid 90's, which was a port of the stripped down PS1 version from back in the day, not the near arcade perfect Saturn version. But a lack of bells and whistles isnt my biggest gripe with this, the Xbox 360 Street Fighter 4 Fightpad, has compatability issues, my cammy ass branded controller doesnt map correctly, and while this is more of an Xbox controller issue, (the triggers map pressure, most generic support for controllers dont map pressure inputs, just binary button pushed/not pushed inputs) this causes the LT and RT buttons to be unusable, which means you cant comfortable map your kicks and punches in scaling order comfortable for this title, and in a fighting game, especially a Street Fighter, this can make or break a game. There are also some niggling menu problems, getting around and setting things to how you like them is archaic, because the game says 'Press Start' for everything, when really it should just say 'Press Enter' approach with caution.

Great Version of SF

I like the games I buy on GOG because, unlike other ports, you don't need to buy a new computer to play games from the 80s, 90s, 2000s. Put more versions of Street Fighter, The King Of Fighters, and some old nes games like old Battletoads, Ninja Gaiden, Bomberman. As you have a contract with Bethesda, see if you can get the Rare Replay, I couldn't find it anywhere to buy it.

Great Bargain

This is a fantastic title, a real hallmark of the Street Fighter Series and the fighting game genre in general. I'm really happy GOG has picked this one up. The 5.99 price tag makes this an absolute steal of a bargain. If you're a fan at all of 2D Fighters, you owe it to yourself to pick up Street Fighter Alpha 2.

Terrible Port

To be honest the game runs & looks fine (on my rig). But the controller mapping is unforgivable. The start button is mapped to L3 (thumb stick button), instead of the logical choice…”start”. This makes the game unplayable, sooner or later throwing a Hadouken will pause your game! Not to mention if your going to force map our movement with no way to change it, don’t use the analog stick! D-Pads are what fighting game players usually prefer. Common Capcom, this is just a trash port and you know it. All will be forgiven when you release Ultra Street Fighter IV to your loyal GOG customers.

Broken x-input .Playable but barely.

I knew coming in this was a bad port, frankly its pretty clear form the majority of the reviews this isnt good, missing animation frames low qaulity sfx and voices. The Xinput support is bad like all direct input only games this one doesnt recognise the D-pad or L2/R2 and maps start to the only controll option you have L3 so trying to play a single match meant constantly accidentally pausing the match. So why did I buy it knowing it was bad coming in? Well i read that the included soundtrack was a hard to find long out of print Jungle remix ep of the alpha 2 soundtrack called "Street Fighter Alpha 2 Underground Mixxes [Da Soundz of Spasm]" this album is great if you like that cheesy capcom jungle vibes they eventually nailed in SF3 3rd strike, but to my dismay it comes in insulting low bit rate mp3 at 128kbps honeslty this soundtrack is almost impossible to get anywhere else but i can help but feel every aspect here was a huge waste of my money. Please GOG if you have access to the spundtrack jungle remix ep in at least 320kbps or FLAC please update the soundtrack files. its this relases only redeeming feature. Back to the game the best way to play street fighter alpha 2 remains the Street Fighter Alpha Anthology on PS2 which includes arcade perfect alpha 2 and alpha 2 gold with a couple of bonus modes and convience features not found in the recent Street fighter 30th anniversary colection. But you need a PS2 console for it :/
