Opis
The Matrix version is the Gold Edition of the original and includes the the two DLCs "Assault on Communism" and "Assault on Democracy".

Players will be able to wage World War II across the massive expanse of the entire planet. From battles in Europe and North Africa all the way to Asia and the Pacific, Global Conflict features a very huge map (16896 tiles, or 256x64), but in fact it allows players to create maps of up to 131,072 () tiles (512x256) in the map editor!

Command the forces of 6 major and 58 different minor nations whose armies and navies include 20 different unique unit types, each with up to 30 different characteristics and stats. Over 200 different in-game events are now depicted as well as over 50 different decision events that guarantee a unique experience each time the game is played, including:

  • Would you as the British Government so desperately need Destroyers against German U-Boats that you would give several naval bases to the USA?
  • Could Franco be convinced to join the Axis if enough monetary and territorial concessions were offered?
  • Would you as the Allies work to support and finance a coup in Yugoslavia to break its inclusion within the Axis Tripartite Pact? Would it be worth the effort and cost?
  • How should Japan react to the crippling US embargo depriving it of its much needed resources to carry on her war with China?
  • and much, much more...
As with all of the previous Strategic Command games, WWII Global Conflict comes with a full Game Editor that allows you to modify or create your own all new scenarios, campaigns and maps. To assist with that, the full range of terrain tile types and resources are available including Western, European, Asian, Tropical and Pacific Island themed villages, cities, capitals, jungles, mountains, marsh and hills.

When you grow tired of playing against the award winning AI, full multiplayer support is included for Hotseat, E-Mail and Network play.

Incredible game, huge time waster

I've been playing this game and it's brethren for years now and I'm stoked it's on GOG. Sure, the game engine is crude by modern standards and the AI is very predicable but that's part of it's charm. The real value is in it's multiplayer capabilities, scenario editor and massive modding community. Plenty of "what if" scenarios abound or mod one yourself. Ever wondered what would have happened if Britain had fell? If the USSR had joined Germany? The USA alone? Easy to simulate in this game but be warned you will spend hours thinking "just one more turn". Since Matrix/Slithereen have taken ownership of the Strategic Command franchise they have improved it greatly and they still actively support the franchise with tech support and updates, impressive for a 15 year old game.

POOR DESIGN

Overall poor design while using older PC graphics and programing ~The main maps are too small for scale of combat, and must omit many vital geographic locations and resources ~You can make your own maps but you'll be limited by overall size possible ~The zoom function only helps to go out to a world map but not inward enough to see units better ~The screen often scrolls while you use your cursor to touch units or to use buttons at edge of screen ~Poor methods for locating your troops, you have a "next" button" that often sends you to your allies units first! ~No place (or list) to see how many total units you have and what type they are or their location on the map! ~Poor design in the Order of Battle which omits many historical units on both sides of this war ~Notification Pop ups often close before you can read all the information because they don't wait for you to click them to shut off! ~Poor controls and map tools in the Editor where shapes of terrain and patterns of roads or rail do not cover all needed possibilities and some available choices are ridiculously complex, not realistic, and still don't solve what you need to do on the map! ~Poor unit statistics during attacks, where one Polish Corps unit needs 2 or 3 tactical bomber units to properly weaken their defense and 2 or 3 ground units to make them at least retreat one hex, armor units get to attack twice but they should be leading the attack for a breakthrough and they don't have enough stats to do that! ~Still uses the old formula of one unit taking up one hex (including air and naval units) which do not allow any other unit to "stack" with them ~Many errors in the Manual including the suggested turn by turn practice plans ~No way to name or edit your saved games ! With just date and scenario name you may not recognize an earlier bad trial from a newer game ~Years ago older games with these graphics were better thought out and play-tested for success. I Can't Accept this game has been properly designed
