Stranglehold

I would write up a whole review for this game but alas it's way too long for the character limits of GOG, as the review I did write (which I'll link down below) was originally supposed to be a whole video essay I decided to scrap because doing Youtube Essays aren't really my vibe I don't think. Here's what I will say though, it's a fun four to five hour romp where you slow motion dive, shoot people, destroy set pieces, and go through what I could summize to be an american made Hong Kong action movie, which to be fair Hard Boiled was his closest american styled one before switching to Hollywood for a time straight after. I had a lot of fun with this game, it's a nice game to play for a day while turning off your brain and just having fun. It's not deep, you won't get any Max Payne styled twists or anything and the acting is about as stiff as it can be but there's still something about this game that's charming that I still come back to it from time to time whether it's on PS3 or here on GOG. Hopefully this'll be approved but yeah it's a fun title and if you want a cheap game that's fun, I personally think it's worth the ten dollars but you could also try to wait til it's on sale too considering lack of multiplayer and how short it is (which is preferable to me compared to seventy hour games). You have acrobatics in this game, you have bullet time in this game, you have shooting in this game, you have pigeons in this game, so it's pretty clear that it's a good game

one of the fastest purchases i saw it and it was already on my library. great game, could not get my hands on it for years.

Stranglehold is a Third Person Shooter that goes for style over substance and succeeds. The story for this game is pretty much your stock standard convoluted gangster plot that is really designed as an excuse to move the protagonist from one shooting gallery to the next. The music in this game was decent but nothing memorable but the sound effects where great. Environments are highly destructible and it is fun to hear wooden pillars splinter, glass break and goons cry out as they die horribly. By the time you finish gunning down goons in an area take a moment to look around your environment and marvel at the destruction done by the hail of bullets and all the crazy jumping and diving you did. Stranglehold delivers a strong and satisfying game-play loop. Shoot goons in slow-motion and pull off crazy acrobatics while literally blowing up your environment. You gain four unique skills to use that require a certain amount of "Tequila Time", the games version of magic power. While there are four skills to use, you will most likely stick to the first two, healing and precision aim. The game itself is not very long and later levels can feel tedious because the amount of firepower and goons thrown at you increases dramatically. Boss fights are fun and hilarious when you find odd ways to dispatch them. At least once a level you will enter into a stand off with up to twelve goons aiming their pistols at you at point blank range. These stand offs I found where the only thing that really ruined the flow of gameplay and I didn't enjoy them. So where does this game go wrong? Well the slow-motion gimmick can get tiring and forces you to probably play this game is short bursts. Secondly, I had to crank up the resolution to help fix the field of view which is super close. Also the camera sometimes goes a little crazy. Replay value is also low and the stand-offs suck. I recommend this game to fans of action movies and gamers that enjoyed any of the Serious Sam FPS games.

it not a perfect game but..... if you like old HongKong action movies with Chow Yun-fat... this is the WAY !!!
