Buy it! Even if you're not a PandC fan!

I was never a fan of point and click games, since staring at one screen for 15 minutes was never my thing, Stasis changed that. The grim, brutalist architecture of the spaceship is perfect, the atmosphere of each screen just makes you want to go furhter and see what twisted crap is in the next one. The in-game riddles arent really hard, also they arent illogical in any way (remember the chicken with a pulley in the middle from Monkey Island...I do :V) and wont get you stuck or frustrated, they are a perfect ballance in order to advance the story. Oh! and what a story it is! A++ for writing, also there is a metric ton of lore about what really happend on the ship itself and why is it happening. Recommended buy even if you've never played/liked Poin and Click's! Pros: + Art/style + Atmosphere + Ambient sounds and music + Great lore and story writing. A+ space horror/thriller Cons: - Low replayability value, but I guess most point and clicks are like that, you stay for the story, this might be based on a personal preference as I also never read the same book twice.

Starts well, drops the ball a bit

This game scratched an itch I didn't know I had, being a point and click adventure game which captures the essence of movies like alien, event horizon and games like dead space and system shock. It starts really amazing, with incredible atmosphere and a fully realised game world that draws you in. Unfortunately, I found after just a few hours I was groaning at the site of yet another PDA to read and puzzles do become very formulaic, with more often than not you are getting through on trial and error rather than thinking logically. The puzzles aren't that challenging, just obtuse sometimes. Having said that, I got it on sale for next to nothing, and it provided more enjoyment than much else I can get for the same price in the real world. I think the devs did an amazing job, but the gameplay needs more work for longevity. Still, very keen to try the sequel/prequel.

Has its intense moments.

I played the game after Cayne. There is heavy atmosphere (strange for an adventure game!) and there are times when death is possible, so think carefully and act accordingly. Really interesting story as it progresses, while you try to find out how to escape the place and you read texts in PDAs, which both describe the past, and have important information to help you proceed further. Though the story is great, unfortunately it isn’t an actual sequel of Cayne, as it takes place many years afterwards. I would like to know what happened to Hadley. I had read about excessive texts in the game. There are many PDAs scattered for you to read but: A) they aren’t placed so densely (only 1-3 in an area), and B) each PDA doesn’t contain that much text. So, in total, you aren’t “drowned” in text, as is the case in some certain isometric RPG games that suffocate you with endless useless descriptions. Personally, I considered the texts to be interesting and I wanted to learn the staff’s little stories before all of this happened. Some complex riddles. Apart from placing items where you have to, you will also need to combine items in your inventory and also press the right buttons in terminals. Again (as in Cayne) no button to show hotspots, but there aren’t that many interactable items on each screen. There are a few cases of pixel-hunting though, and I had checked a walkthrough a few times due to this matter. In the game there are several moments where the heart beats a little faster. I give extra congratulations to the devs for the surgery sequence. Very intense moment. I had stopped playing for the day after that scene and continued on the next day… BUT NOT congratulations about another scene near the end… I was shocked and felt very sad. Odd thing: No options in the main menu! Sound, Graphics, etc., nothing! I’m certainly looking forward to the next in the series (Bone Totem).

Space horror at its finest!

STASIS is a decent space horror game with disturbing graphics and an interesting storyline. I'm surprised this game was made by a three man-studio, as the quality of the game feels much higher than that! The story itself is pretty trope-y, you play as your Regular Joe waking up on a spaceship and you start looking for your family. However it does lead into something more, something worse and it does tie into a really good ending with twists and turns. Reading the PDAs that are available gives more background lore, making the setting even better. The characters might be trope-y but they're not over the top and the voice acting is actually really good. Gameplay-wise it's puzzle solving with simple point n click mechanics and sometimes timing involved. It makes the good flow on and you can instead focus on the story and the environments, which are both beautiful and terrifying. This game is visually appealing, however at times maybe a bit too dark graphically speaking. However the game is dark itself as well, based on both the storyline and the fact that your character can meet his death in several gruesome ways, both self-inflicted and by the surrounding environment. I recommend this to any space horror fan! It's really good and I can't wait for the upcoming sequel! In the meanwhile I'll play the other games released by this dev.

Atmospheric Adventure

I finished the game recently and liked the experience very much. Indeed so much that I took the time to delve a little deeper into what it all meant in the end ... but more on that down below. Stasis, from the very beginning, strikes a tone resembling well-known Sci-Fi horror movie classics the likes of Event Horizon, Alien, etc. and indeed the (very small) team of developers confirmed that they took a lot of inspiration from those. The story, which advances with a nice pace, slowly grows into a dark tale of grim desperation, which I really enjoyed. I actually was so engaged that I tackled the game more or less in one go. The game mechanics follow the usual point-and-click adventure logic, the puzzles are (mostly) moderately easy to solve, although the required parts for solving them aren't always easy to find on the map, since there is no possibility in-game to have them highlighted. There is the possibility to die when combining the wrong items or entering some areas prematurely, but due to the autosave feature I rarely lost any progress. Although I was really engaged with the game, there are some things I still have to criticise: - Although there is a constant threat present in the game, there is no actual confrontation with that danger (which I don't like to spoil here), so in the end, this felt a bit short of its potential - some characters that you meet (or read from) are a bit stereotypical and act quite irrational. - the ending (actually the entire last act) felt very disappointing and is quite ambiguous. Although the developers again confirmed that this was on purpose, I still felt dissatisfied. And although there are a lot of speculations online about what actually happened there, there is still no definitive answer from the devs. Still, I enjoyed the experience very much. So, if you are into Sci-Fi Horror, you should definitely give it a try.
