This is one of the best Star Wars games ever made and it surely was ahead of it's time, with unique playable characters, different maps and a solid campaign, instant action mode, galactic conquest and multiplayer.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 is a game that I'd recommend to all gamers, and thanks to it's modability it's community is still alive and growing. This mods usually work online; "Battlefront 2 Remaster Project" for instance helps updating the game's graphics while keeping the same gameplay.
Unforgettable game that I (and probably many others) will keep replaying forever.
I bought this expecting it to be terrible, i played it when i was a kid and i expected it to be like almost all the other games i enjoyed from back then and re purchased as an adult ( ie: wow i dont remember it being this crappy! I was a really stupid kid!)
But it held up really well! All the modes are great, the map design really fun (except Felucia), the classes are different enough to stay entertaining for a while, gun physics are good, and the vehicles are fun.
Also it has a mode dedicated to slaughtering ewoks with a sniper rifle lol.
It has a pretty decent amount of content to stay entertaining but at the end of the day, almost all the content is bot matches. Which isnt really a bad thing and the ai is mostly good but it will still get repetitive easily, and I know many people will get annoyed by that, even if its not a dealbreaker for me.
Biggest criticisms: The ai cant handle fighting vehicles, many of the tanks seem to almost never die if you hop into them, and you will mow down many troops if riding a vehicle and it turns the combat into a joke since the ai doesnt seem to have good anti tank programming.
Also the space battles against the bots are incredibly easy and boring, the space ai is braindead and the fights are very long and undynamic because of this, they quickly become a routine and a chore (maybe its better online).
In spite of that i recommend this game because the core shooting is fun as hell, the maps are fantastic, and the modes are great.
its got some annoying story missions (jedi library anyone?), and very basic ai and combat, but the galactic conquest mode is what really keeps me coming back to it
tip: for the instant action mode play assault on mos eisley for heroes vs villains fun
It's been 20 years and I am still waiting for a better Star Wars experience. They really went all out with what they had available at the time.
I would love to see a remake, and not the remakes that happened. What is Battlefronts without Galactic Conquest!?
This gam allows you to fight the wars fron Episode 2 - 5. It has all of the weapons, vehicles, and armors. The only thing we are missing is a podracing mini-game.
The game is fun on its own, but if you want to hate playing it just try it on Elite difficulty. It's not so challenging, but the game just starts spawning enemies on top of you and you get headshotted before you can react. There's also speculation that modern hardware is giving the AI supernatural abilities.
In all, consider this. I played it 20 years ago, and I'm on my 3rd Galactic conquest in 2 days. Top Tiep game. Would buy again if I didn't get it free.
