A vast improvement on the base game.
This is a great modification of a good game. A looter shooter with RPG elements. Gameplay is mostly about exploring, auto generated quests, looting and doing battles in an open world. You will do things like: hunt for artefacts, fight monsters, fight humans, explore new areas, craft new items/gear, buy/sell from vendors, navigate minefields of dangerous terrain (anomalies). You fight alone or with ai teammates. Surviving can also be a major aspect if you want it to, things like the need for food/drink/bandages/sleep/anti radiation drugs etc. You can disable/adjust these mechanics in the settings. There are real quests and a storyline as well, several hours worth. The downsides: voiceover does not cover everything, the game can be somewhat overwhelming to beginners, the story is not very good. What does the modpack (gamma) do? -- It improves on every aspect of the game in a million ways, without losing track of what makes the stalker games fun to begin with.
