Since my initial poor rating for Spellforce III.... the problem I experienced disappeared. The developers have been very proactive in issuing patches to fix the many issues.
Spellforce III is a beautiful looking game. I run it at 2560x1080.
It has taken me a bit of time to adjust to the changes in the game mechanics from those of the previous games. ie... not being able to directly order creation of worker at HQs. It requires more patience to build things now.
I'm currently enjoying playing into the early morning hours. Minor bugs remain but I'm sure they will be addressed in the near future.
Now, back to the adventure.
A great value, combining an absolute beast of a soundtrack (50 tracks) with a beautiful artbook.
If you played the game, you'll know that the music from Bastian Kieslinger is absolutely great - a thematically varied orchestral score that truly stands on its own. You'll also know that the art direction is very good, so a well-curated artbook is a welcome treat.
The only fault I can find with this is that the tracks are only in mp3, not flac.
Some of the old feels of SpellForce are still there, some not. Sometimes the controls are messy, sometimes a little odd AI behaviour.
But it's quite easy to get, and to adabt. There is a lot of potential and after the first view patches it's certainly fully enjoyable.
Nice features like multiplayer-campaign, the famous RTS/RPG mash-up. Graphics and sound are usually taste, but can't think of anything bad - compared to StarCraft 2, loading-screens are non-existent (about 10 secs on HDD) - so even the many map-changes are not bothersome.
The game is really good, it also scales well to 4k.
The spellforce 3 controls are a little weird at first but once you get used to them they are well done.
This game is waiting for a review. Take the first shot!
