Silent Hill 4: The Room

Game achieves its goal.... frighten. classic Silent Hill fashion, it delivers unnerving and bone chilling atmostphere. The voice acting of main character is pretty atrocious and i am not sure if that was intended but it does somewhat distract and suck you from the experience.

I can't thank you guys enough for preserving games like this all while still remaining affordable. The graphics are phenomenal and not one issue with lagging.

the best port i ever played for a silent hill game.. really hoping they put sh1 an sh3 on here. if you never played sh4 i really recommend. for anyone the loves the silent hill this is the 2nd best one i think

Criticisms deriding The Room's protagonist's lack of personality or psychological depth (particularly in comparison to James Sunderland) are fair, but I personally feel as if Henry's muted demeanour and mundane everyman personality suits the wild premise of making something as mundane and commonplace as an apartment the source of mounting dread. The Room is not scary per se, but it is uniquely disturbing in a way that few mainstream horror titles ever manage to be. I'm a lover of the franchise and the genre, so it's an easy sell, but even in such hallowed company as Silent Hill 2, I think The Room is a fantastic survival horror experience.

This game is so good story wise, the mystery in the beginning and the unravelling of the situation and the history of Walter Sullivan is really well done. I think Walter is a really well written character along with the likes of Maria, James, and Heather. The atmosphere is the creepiest in this game and is downright disturbing. It is nasty but in all the best ways. The locations are hit or miss, the intrigue is there but the level design is a step back from past installments. The water prision was really unique and might be my favorite location in the game. The two biggest issues I have with this game is one the fact that you go back through every location you already visited once you start to escort Eileen and my god the subway was infuriating having to traverse back and forth between the long escalator of hell and the train cart maze, wasn't very fun considering her AI would move so slow in the train carts and the Ghosts being a constant threat. Her AI is outdated and frustrating at times because you are so much faster than her and she needs to be next to you to progress. The second biggest issue is the Ghosts, yes there are ways to deal with them but they are an issue for the game. I think they are overtuned and are really annoying to deal with, I like the mechanics of the sword that pins them down leaving them incapaciated while impaled but you only get up to 5. The room itself is really cool and the interactions and secrets you can find are really cool. Overall this is a great game, mainly carried by the story and atmosphere with the gameplay being frustrating at times and the level design not being as well made, also there are like no puzzles, there are but are very straight forward. I give this game a 4/5 and think its the second best story of the franchise behind of course Silent Hill 2. I hope this helps anyone thinking of getting the game, you definitely should its a experience that is unforgettable.
