Silent Hill 4: The Room

I hate it

Satisfying combat and a mostly interesting but exposition-heavy storyline that features some of the stylistically coolest cutscenes of any Silent Hill title sums up 4. Was overshadowed by 2 and 3 as a Silent Hill title at it's original release time and from my experience tends to get a somewhat unwarranted bad reputation as a result - and whilst I would be inclined to agree with someone that told me it's the weakest Team Silent offering, that doesn't even come close to meaning it's a mediocre title.

Can't enjoy a classic silent hill game because this GOG port is unfortunatley extremely bugged. Henry disappears, screen goes black and game also crashes.

I haven't played SH4 since Sept 2004 when it launched (I have the Xbox version) and really enjoyed how different this was compared to SH1-3. My only gripes now and back then were the ghosts not being able to die (unless you use a candle or Sword to keep them in place and also those things that come out the walls and can swipe you across the room. The soundtrack is killer and I almost prefer it to the perfect SH2 score, but what is kind of a letdown is the majority of it isn't in the game and only on CD/vinyl/streaming, but it's incredible to listen to outside of the game.

Great port of a pretty solid game. It isnt my favorite Silent Hill, nor is it the best, but there's nothing quite like it in the survival horror genre. I wish the other titles would be included as well. I spent the past week playing through this series, and I've loved it. These games came out when I was in my late teens/early 20s, and I don't think I appreciated them like I do now. Highly recommend this game, and Silent Hill 1-3 as well for any fans of turn-of-the-century survival horror, they are not to be missed.
