Silent Hill 4: The Room

Fun, scary, challenging, wish the dogs didn´t teleport (kidding) but overall I'm loving it. 10/10 would recommend.

EDIT: NVM I'm raising the game by a star because the 2nd half actually feels like a survival horror and forcing you to do resource management. Really enjoyed this half of the game and it should have been there from the start than whatever the first half was. Took about 5 hours for me to get to the 2nd half so If you're willing to take the time to slog through the most mindnumbing, boring horror gameplay to get to very interesting gameplay, I would recommend it, otherwise pass on this. I highly appreciate that GoG is bringing in silent hill games to its platform (with now Silent Hill 2 Remake and Silent Hill f being on the platform). I hope they bring 1, original 2 and 3 to the platform soon. Having played 1, 2 and 3 over the years I was cautiously optimistic getting to SH4 knowing its reputation for being the weakest one out of the quadrulogy. It heavily disappointed me, it's so boring. The story is nothing for at least half of it, gameplay wise it might be even worse than the 3 games like it hasn't evolved, there's nothing done to make combat feel good. and most importantly, it's not scary at all. There's barely any ambient tracks to set the mood, a lot of distracting stock sound effects are being used which just ruins any immersion, The environments are drap and uninteresting, some of the monster designs are good but a lot of em just aren't scary because of their behaviour. Looking at some of the reviews here makes me feel the odd one out, it doesn't feel creepy or scary so I can't recommend it as a good horror game.

I remember buying in days back when it was released and after playing for a few hours I was absolutely stunned by how good this game nails down surreal atmosphere and introduces you into "horror dream" vibe. Storywise it's kinda 50/50, from one site it's a good story about shy, intrevorted guy overcoming his fears and deals with chaotic monster in his worlds (he also gets a girl at the and in best ending), but on a second site story is not inspiriting or unique, it's mostly world building and occult aspects of whats happening what makes me love what happening in story. Talking about puzzles and gameplay, again, it's different from previous three games, but still fun. This time, game more melee focused in terms of combat. It's clunky, yes, but dealable. Especially once you find out how good Axe for killing everything (even final boss). Also, I find this game most fun of all four first titles for getting maximum (10.2 stars in SH4) rank. Rewards for max. rank are not great in this one, but being able to speedrun it and memorize every step you must take is more fun than any rewards for me. Hardest part is to find 2,5 hours to spare for playing videogames when you adult and have way more responsibilities comparing to teenage years...damn, time flies.

Game keeps crashing about 45-50 min in.....dissapointing.
