Masterpiece
I've bought this game on Steam 'cause I didn't knew it was going out in GOG. Eitherway, this game is a masterpiece, there is no actual horror game as good as this. The music, the story, the easter eggs, the combat is quite good if you played the first one, the tone of the game. This game is top notch and goty. Don't pay attention to the reviews that claim this game is garbage or woke.

Fantastic!
I never got the chance to play the original so I can't comment om how faithful it is to that. However, I will say that the game is absolutley beautiful. With great story and characters aswell as certified spooky™ I highly recommend playing with a high quality controller. (Xbox Series X controller, PS5 controller or 8Bitdo Ultimate 2 for example) The game makes very good use of the controller, especially the vibration/haptic feedback. If you like horror that's more than just lazy jumpscares, then this is for you.

A near perfect masterpiece.
Silent Hill 2 Remake Is really worthy of the name. Near perfect. Breathtaking graphics, the eerie atmosphere, the characters, all of it. My only complaints are the controls in combat and monsters reacting to getting hit with a melee weapon. I understand you're not some GI Joe but he barely runs. When you strike an enemy it seems random if they react or not. Sometimes they stumble back while other times it's like nothing happens so they get a free shot on you.

Bloober's Mega Breakthrough
Before SH2 Remake, Bloober was more known for their walking simulator style games like Layers of Fear 1-2, The Medium, Observer, and Blair Witch. All of which enjoyed above average receptions, and way before that, they made some very forgettable games in the early 2010s. SH2 Remake, was their mega breakthrough success and launched Bloober into the upper echelons of gaming that they are enjoying now. The remake successfully recaptures much of the magic from the original, with Bloober also applying their own magic to add some unexpectedly welcome additions. All the characters are well portrayed and very comparable to their original versions. The voice acting solid, though with Maria being the weakest link. The story is amazing as ever, and wonderfully recaptured from the original. The combat is very serviceable and by far the most advanced in the series and a great evolution altogether. The setting and environments are incredibly well done for exploration and immersion. Bloober did a wonderful recapturing the magic from the original SH2 into updated graphics and gameplay. Bloober successfully defied all doubts and negative expectations with the massive success of SH2 Remake. They are now on the rise as a new major player in horror gaming that they have spread their wings further starting with Cronos the New Dawn, which is a surprisingly good game itself, along with a SH1 Remake in the works, and other projects in development. Congratulations to Bloober and best of luck to their long term future.
