Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri™ Planetary Pack

I remember, when i was younger, when i thought having a 5 or so GIG HD, less than 500 MBs of RAM and a 64 MB video card was incredible, That old system would have little use even as a paperweight in this day and age. But i remember... Spending countless, i mean COUNTLESS hours playing this game, from start to finish. Many a times i found myself leaving my computer running, with this game paused while i went to school, just so i wouldn't have to wait for it to load up when i got home. I've never been a great fan of Turn Based Strategy games but this.... Alpha Centauri, is without the slightest doubt, one of my absolute favorite games of ALL times, without question. Single campaigns' lasting days at a time with no hint of boredom in sight. I truly wish they could make an up to date version of this game, with all the trimmings of the new technology at hand, whilst keeping everything about this game that made it great as untouched as possible. Electronic Crack, as i called it, as i call many games today. In my opinion, any gamer worth his or her pixels should have this game in their library. A True Classic of epic proportions. This game deserves nothing less than the highest admiration and respect a video game can receive. Thank You Firaxis Games and all those who helped to develop this true masterpiece of gaming engineering. And Thank You GOG for making it available once again, without countless searches in vein to find a working, original physical copy again, although it is a digital download i still wish i had my original game and packaging. The game and it's expansion both work perfectly thus far. And i look forward, which i have time on my hands, to pour countless more hours into this amazing game. Thank You for reading ~Demi~

Holy smokes! It's 2019 and I just started playing this game -- no, this masterpiece, for the first time and what a ride it is! I had no excuse in 1999. Sure, the game was hard to find. Sure, I was still a broke middle school kid who won't be able to buy a copy even if he found one. Sure, I also didn't have a computer powerful enough to play it. Sure, I was raised up in a family where video gaming is bad and a waste of time. I had no excuse for missing this piece of art! It's ironic how today's games is all about graphics or following a trend, spawning so many clones of each other. Clones of clones. This game though...sure the graphics are dated but the gameplay and settings and everything else about it stand the test of time. At full price, the digital copy is so cheap. Buy and play it now!!! I cannot recommend this game enough. Ok, I'm done writing my review. Time to warp-jump back into Alpha Centuari.

One of the best 4x games ever made, now even better with the Alien Crossfire expansion(that was oddly absent when Alpha Centauri was first released) as of dec 20, 2012? Yes, I think this is an instapurchase.

Alpha Centauri is still my favorite turn based strategy of all time. It still has more personality than any other game of it's genre. I so hate seeing some reviewers that just because they couldn't get it to run giving it just 1 star. That's not a game review. It runs perfectly fine on Windows 11 Though Sid Meier's name is on it, it was a masterpiece designed by Brian Reynolds. While Firaxis's Beyond Earth tried to be a modern version in spirit, it never came close. So stop reading and go play it, the drones need you..!! :D

Obviously the graphics are dated on this one since it came it at the turn of the century. But the gameplay is impeccable. It isn't just a continuation or improvement on Civ. It's a complete overhaul. The added dimensions to diplomacy, terraforming, customized unit creation, and the complication given to the player by the addition of the native life problem add richness and depth that make higher difficulties not something that's merely described as "tougher enemies" but more challenging internal (and planet) problems that cannot be ignored. But the reason why this game goes above and beyond is the story element. The faction profiles and introduction of the lore via gameplay elements (secret project, technologies and bases) pre-Dark Souls era interwine a story riddled with philosophy and questionable ethics. Repeal the UN charter on atrocities and start sending nuclear missiles against your enemies, gassing their cities, and "nerve stapling" your disobedient cities all the while operating under a police state building cloning factories and "punishment spheres." Or perhaps run a liberal democracy and green policies, planting trees, and "become one" with the planet. The option is yours.
