The voice acting, animation and atmosphere were perfect. The game really gave the player the feel of being Sherlock Holmes. The puzzles and mini-games were generally good, and most had the option of being skipped (avoiding a common failing with many adventure games which stop a player from progressing if the mouse is not clicked fast enough the right way). The story was entertaining and thought-provoking. The process of putting the clues together was good. The game was quite clever in allowing the player to come to very different conclusions depending on the way the player interpreted the evidence. A highly recommended game!
I picked up this game at a sale after hearing good things about it, and those good things were definitely warranted. This is as close to a perfect Sherlock Holmes experience you're going to get in a video game! In the game, you play as Sherlock Holmes as he solves six unique cases along with Doctor Watson while Sherlock's brother Mycroft investigates a mysterious terrorist group on the rise known as the Merry Men. Each case has its own gallery of suspects, and thanks to the Deduction system, you can reach different and contradictory conclusions based on whether you rule specific evidence substantial or not. The game thus really rewards pressing on with your investigation even if you have already reached a conclusion. Furthermore, the game also has a moral choice system as at the end of each case, you can either choose to absolve or convict the suspect of their crimes. If you have solved all cases correctly, I would guess the mystery will be a bit gone on replays, but there is still some replayability in replaying the cases again for their stories and seeing some of the outcomes you didn't choose on your last playthrough. I only have some minor problems with the game, though - some cases are more in-depth than others ("The Abbey Grange Affair" in particular feels very short and clear-cut), Sherlock's disguise kit is used way too little, and some of the minigames can be very tedious; I skipped two of them simply to get on with the story. However, I can't sing this game's praises enough - definetely check this one out if you like Sherlock Holmes, detective games like LA Noire, or if in general you'd like an atmospheric and well-written gaming experience!
This game in my opinion is the best of Sherlock Holmes series. the atomosphere adds a lot to the cases. It's not complicated but still very joyful to solve cases. you are the detective and the judge which something nice to be in real life :). You will not feel that you are under presure because of the puzzles but you will enjoy solving them. Very balanced game and the dialogues are not boring at all.
I am enjoying the game story wise but I am starting to feel sick from the controls. Only other game that did this to me was Pine. Controls seems too sensitive and loose. You tend to twirl rather than turn. Holmes keeps blocking your way which starts to get on your nerves after a while. sorry only 2 stars as it really spoils the enjoyment. add the crashes and well...not great
This game, while definitely not the ground breaking or best of its time, is the prefect step in evolution of Sherlock Holmes titles. Its more complex and better executed than the Testament… It has more thought out cases, some with real twists and tuff choices to make. While some of the riddles may seem linear it perfectly fits the idea of legendary detective that almost always knows the answer. Only shame is that many of the ideas were one use only. While the graphics have a few years it still does not hurt the eyes. Definitely not the game to for the people that like to exercise their brain with complex and multilevel problems. But if you like a good story that sometimes engages your brain this is the game for you
