A thrilling FMV visual novel

The developers of ‘She Sees Red’ made it very clear that this title is an interactive movie. Essentially, it’s a visual novel, but with full-motion videos (FMV). In each playthrough, players make decisions that will affect how the story unfolds. Different decisions can reveal background information that complete the overall narrative. Given that, players are expected to go through ‘She Sees Red’ multiple times – at least twice. Each playthrough lasts a bit longer than 30 minutes, so players will get anywhere from 1 to 1.5 hours out of this title at the minimum. Adamant on unlocking and viewing all 62 unique scenes, I spent just a bit more than 3 hours on it. Whether or not ‘She Sees Red’ is worth the current price point will depend on how much you’re willing to spend on buying a movie or TV show digitally. Yet, don’t let ‘She Sees Red’ being an FMV title fool you: it features performances, cinematography, and fight choreography that are actually pretty darn great. It has high production value and it’s well edited. During the first couple of playthroughs, I was intrigued by the story. I remained curious as I tried to unlock other endings during my third and fourth playthroughs. The title did overstay its welcome after that, but that’s in part due to my quest to unlock all scenes. Although ‘She Sees Red’ tells you how many unique scenes you’ve viewed, it doesn’t tell you which ones you’ve missed. Because of that you’ll have to keep track of the decisions you’ve made and the paths you’ve taken. Sometimes the scenes are so subtly different that I didn’t realize I was watching a new one. Although you can skip scenes you’ve already watched, you can’t just jump to a story branching point. It’s a missing feature that would have earned this title a perfect score. Still, I really enjoyed ‘She Sees Red’ in spite of that one flaw. It’s entertaining as long as you keep your expectations in check. It makes for a fun diversion from playing bigger, more elaborate games.

Nice thrilling story

For those who never played interactive movies or full-motion videos before, you play it by viewing short video scenes. The scenes are separated by your decisions between two alternatives. Some decisions are game-changing, others just show you a different video. Here decisions are not quick-time events, although you have only a limited time to decide. The genre of the story would be something like a Russian hard-boiled crime story. As others have mentioned the game is grind-free and short. I enjoyed it a lot, because the story is thrilling and actors are good. The subtitles in English and German transport the atmosphere very well. A wish, I would like to have a decision -> scene tree, after I found all endings. There may be a scene not reachable right now, that why I could not reach the 100% achievement.

short but solid

It was my first fmv game. I expected it to be at least 80-90 minutes long, so I was negatively surprised at first when it finished after half an hour. However, I immediately started another playthrough and later I watched all the movies in the game folder. Later, I also watched some videos on youtube and looked up the company website and the cast. The game has also made me write my first GOG review. I loved the suspence, mystery, the actors, and the voicing. Technically, I think it's great and very professional. The overall quality (together with the lighting and music) makes it interesting and enjoyable all through the second playthrough. However, I think the second playthrough should unlock the option to make 2-3 saves, so that you can come back to them and change your choices without having to go through the whole game for a third time. Disclaimer: I love dark themes and convoluted stories with ordinary people, so not everybody will share my enthusiastic opinion. I also bought the game on a sale, after many years, so - for me - it was worth the price.

Good Fun!

Great game, enjoying it! In a bit more than an hour I have seen about half of the scenes, looking forward to explore the rest of the story / scenes. Most other games that claimed to be replayable failed in making me want to do so. Great value for money.

A Movie for a night

The game is short, but it has the perfect length for the story. I really liked to finish the game in the evening with 4 Playthroughs. The acting was very good. At first, it seems like a B-Movie-Touch, but with understanding more of the story, the "hints" make more and more sense, until i "got it" and the acting became understandable. Repalying the game a second and third time was fun, but had a few minor flaws. Ideas for improvements for a second game: - Skip-Scene is a bit hidden in the menu. A "space-bar"-Skip would be nice. Althoug a rewind-Funktion for later Playthroughs. - A small Walkthrough-DLC like in some adult games would be nice. - Time for decisions should be longer in first playthrough, or there should be an option to have unlimited time for people with disabilities. I found the brutality in some scenes quite hard, remembering "Kill Bill" or "John Wick". So it is not a party game (at least for me) or for a sentimental mood. The trigger warning is justified. All in all, it was good entertainment, and I would like to see a second part.
