Shadows: Awakening is the new adventure in the Heretic Kingdoms saga. After the members of the secret council known as the Penta Nera are assassinated, their souls are consumed by the Devourers – evil demons which possess the ability to absorb the memories and personalities of the souls they acquire and materialize them as their puppets. Gotta be honest, got it for free and cause of that did not expected anything at all.
And yet I am pleasantly surprised. It is really decent and for a title like that really packed.
Lore is, arbeit not original, well thought out and interestingly put togerther, worls is beautiful and immersive and character interactions can make player chuckle once or twice.
You need tyo get used to the mechanics, some puzzles and sidequests are really pain in the ass but overall it's a solid title.
Gra nawet fajna, przypomina stare dobre produkcje, proste sterowanie, przełączanie między światami. Minus to braku stawienia polskiego, ale w plikach gry jest język polski tylko brak możliwości jego wybrania w grze.
It really needs a NG+ option in my opinion. Like during the game it shows you what puppets you missed because of your decisions, but it is kind of meaningless if you can not transfer anything to the new game. And after playing it once starting a new run just to experience the options you missed...I see no point, cause the game does no provide you with an ability to reach those faster. Starting the completely different character is more interesting, but still less so, cause there is nothing transferred from the previous run, and goin through exactly the same bosses and dungeons second time is less interesting.
Some puzzles are overused, and some mechanics are underused. I mean the puzzle where you need to roll a bolder is slightly annoying, cause the controls on it are not so precise, and those are used more than it make sense in my opinion. But the mechanic of "switching to shadow stops time" does not really work in cases where it makes sense, like the rolling boulders puzzle, where switching only actually stopped time in one location, but none of the others. It really should've been used more, cause it is kind of the main mechanic of the game.
For a single run it was fun enough, for more - it is too tedious, even if the story of the other characters is interesting...
I really disliked most of the puzzles this game offers. Why would anyone build a wall of fire traps to keep someone/something out and then put the lever to turn off the fire traps right at the entrance? And then have the lever turn off only 1-2 traps on the wall at a time as you slowly walk the corridor waiting for the next flame to turn off? What is even the point of this? There's nothing to figure out with this puzzle, other than how dumb this idea was. Also dying is not a puzzle, especially without any clues pointing out that maybe you should just go ahead and die instead of running in a circle for 5 minutes. There were a few genuine puzzles but mostly those just involve figuring out which piece of a circle goes where and how to get it there. The rest are just pull a series of levers in a specific order at the right times.
I also didn't like how they didn't give more indication on one of the puppet choices. It's simply go one way you get this guy, head the other direction and you get the other. They don't give any clues that you would get locked into a puppet or what either puppet would be like. I like making choices, I don't like the game hiding choices behind arbituary actions/dialogues.
Other than those main gripes, the combat was lackluster, the skills lackluster, and the loot lackluster with not much to say postive, or negative, about them. Mostly it's a meh game with a lot of annoyances that seem to be there just to annoy the player.
This game is waiting for a review. Take the first shot!
