Sea Dogs

This is a great old game that I played as a child and have rediscovered. The game mechanics are fun and well made for the time, and theres a range of different storylines to choose from with loads of little side quests. The wind mechanics make every battle unique. One small issue is that when you get a big ship (class 3 and up), the quick travel to a town stops working and it regularly drops you in front of a wall, and the boarding mechanic gets awkward as theres a tiny wndow you need to get into to make it work. These are minor problems though and generally its still a lot of fun. There are occasional glitches with characters disappearing, or the HUD becoming unreadable if you try and change the graphics settings. Generally these can be sorted by reloading the game though. This game is basically like the beta of assassins creed black flag, but from 20 years earlier and with better sea battle mechanics where it doesnt just become super monotonous. Would recommend for people who like old RPGs

the original sea dogs! So mutch love and hours spent on this game. Sadly it doesnt run well on modern systems. Needs a HD remake. It is playable, but it spoils the experience. So good game, but just needs some refitting to modern standards. :)

While this game isn't all bad, it makes me wish that its sequel Sea Dogs 2 (AKA Pirates of the Caribbean) was available. It felt more like a better upgrade from this game. But even though Akella developed it, both Bethesda and Disney published it to coincide with the first PotC film. So I don't think it'll be possible for GOG to make that game available due to licensing issues

I have bought this game to study how the pirate/sailing games are made. I must admitt it looks ok and the controlls are nice. Unfortunatelly the games pace is very slow. I have only fought 1 sea battle but it was 1 shot 1 kill. Sailing takes forever. If you are not into old games than stay away from this title.

This game is my absolute childhood, my grandfather played it, my Dad played it, I've played it, and now my son has played it. There's some issue with the graphics malfunctioning when the weather is stormy, but aside from that GOG has done a great job at making this game run on modern systems.
