Lights blur. The crowd whizzes past. Your helmet rattles against the roll bar and the competition switches into overdrive. Tears stream from your eyes and the race moves into extreme speed. Tears of sweat. The same stuff that's seeping off your palms and onto the steering wheel. Get a grip. You're sliding into a turn at 200 miles per hour and centrifugal force will only carry you so far.
This is velocity-driven, pedal-to-the-metal arcade racing.
Strapped into a personally chosen made-for-the-Autobahn racing machine, you'll scream to redefine fast in this winding 3D ride of pure fun.
Great, addictive, arcade-style gameplay
Driving mechanics so unrealistic they’ll make you wish you could powerslide like that in real life!
If you didn’t have a Pentium processor back in 1995, now is your chance to finally play this game!

I remember this being my first racing game - I loved everything about it, it was just awesome fun!
Graphics was great, music (soundtrack) and gameplay was just AMAZING!
This is one of those Car Racing games that will never die! This was the best back then and it's still one of the best for me even now! Please do not compare this to the new breed of car racing games like GRID and NFS. This is different. It's GOLDEN! Love it! Thank you GOG :-)
Screamer is, "simply" a clone of SEGA driving games, notably Sega Rally and Daytona USA.
The goal is simple, choose a car (AT/MT -with MT being overall stronger but more technical) and drive to place first. You have to watch both your opponents and the clock (checkpoints extend it) and learn the circuit to navigate the turns efficiently.
The controls are very simple, but the physics, being very unrealistic, demand some getting used to. Drifting has huge inertia and grazing other vehicles make you bounce a lot, so it can be a pain to learn.
On the other hand, everything from the music to the announcer screams "SEGA DRIVING ARCADE GAME" so much it's hard not to see the inspiration, and on this regard, Screamer delivers. Everything feels fast, smooth, dynamic, you can drive during day or night, planes, copters and balloons adorn the sky and fly by, LED billboards "scream" at you, it really feels like you have an arcade cabinet on your desktop.
The game offers many modes, single race, championship, challenge mode, time attack and you can unlock a super car as well as the reverse tracks. Or if you're lazy, use the cheats and also stop the clock.
I haven't tried online MP (although I doubt it'll go well with DOSBox and it being a 1995 game), but there is local VS.
Even if the content seems light and the difficulty can be high (AI cars rubberband a little, but they mostly are scripted to do a smooth race, so your battle is very uphill from the word "GO"), I just love to fire the game and unlock all tracks just for time attack and challenge mode, or a simple arcade race.
This is the kind of game I see as an thrill ride, I just play a race or two for fun and that's it.
The graphics were great for a 1995 DOS CD game and the arcade feel was quite smooth (especially for a full 3D game).
It's still my favourite Screamer and it's a great time. It might feel obsolete, but nowadays it'd run on a potato, so that makes it a great game for your laptop. However 10bux is steep.
This game is not what it seems to be on the surface. On the surface it seems to be a Ridge Racer arcade type game, but in reality it's a nice looking game with very bad controls much like Burning Road for the PS1 looked like a Daytona USA clone on the surface, but it turned out to be a game that looked like Daytona USA where every vehicle controlled like it was on ice!
The problem is not that this game has keyboard only controls that you can easily map with your controller mapping software. The problem with this game is that your car will fishtail out of control if you push the brake button for more than a split second even if you're driving straight. To avoid this you have to repeatedly push the brake button rapidly and downshift in order to slow down without spinning out. After you figure that out the game is pretty easy until you get to the Pro league where the biggest problem is the AI ramming you and causing you to wreck. Mix that with the unintuitive controls and it becomes massively frustrating to be in front and lose because of a D move by the jerk behind you. I'm sure with more practice I could beat the pro league but it's just not any fun to have to manage the terrible breaking mechanic and deal with steering around every bend and car. To add insult to injury the game loves to lock up randomly so bad that I can't CTRL ALT DEL or ALT TAB to close DOSBox. I have to sign out to get it to close. You've been warned.
When I say crashing, not only are they quite bizarre crashing physics in this game, but it also freezes and crashing in a couple of stages. DOSBox really needs a fix for this game, but sadly its seems updates stopped a while ago so we are just left with an unplayable experience.
This game is waiting for a review. Take the first shot!
