Great visuals, poor combat
This isn't a game; it's art. The H.R.Giger-esque visuals are spot on, as is the audio and music. It's clearly a work of skill (and love). As far as the walking sim parts go, it's brilliant, to the point of wishing it had a VR option. If this was the entire game, it would be perfect. However, after a while, Scorn (unfortunately) starts throwing enemies at you, and the mechanics are not ready for it. At all. - The walking speed is very slow. You are not agile enough for combat. - The game explains nothing. You pick up a tentacle creature, and have to read a walkthrough to find out, it's a health pack that you apply by pressing . Some exposure, or even a short text message, would have gone a long way. - Your only weapon (at first) is a melee combat "gun", with no indication if you are in striking range. - At the same time, the first enemies are able to attack from a distance--and they do a lot of damage. - Little feedback, how much (if any) damage you are doing. - Ergo, you will die, a lot. - No manual saves, and the automatic save points are frustratingly far apart. If you die, be ready to be set back 5-10 minutes. - Walking speed is very slow. While you can press to "run" (which isn't mentioned anywhere), the difference is barely noticeable, and backtracking is a constant, so dying is unnecessarily punishing. Long story short, it's a visually stunning game that is plagued by frustrating combat mechanics.
