A fun little game, when it works

Before you play you need to install this patch. https://www.gog.com/forum/scarlet_hood_and_the_wicked_wood/demo_crash_after_company_logo It's a shame the company isn't supporting their game on all the platforms they're selling it on, but hey, this isn't about them, this is about the game. The art style is gorgeous, with appealing character designs and a charming colour palette. The story is a mix of wizard of Oz and Ground hog day with endearing characters, and three different endings dependent on your choices in the game. The meat of the game play is puzzle solving of satisfying difficulty, which you can solve some basic reasong or just good'ol brute force. It also features patroller and stalker enemies that you have to dodge/hide from respectively. This adds some variety for the point and click genre and also means you're not going to be bored travelling between areas. The only glaring black spots against the game is of course the aforementioned patch requirement to actually play it, two of the late game puzzles, which had incomprehensible soloutions and the voice acting is really bad (good thing it only lasts for 5 minutes in total). A charming experience that you should definitely give a chance.

Was hoping for Vambrace 2 but...

for what it is (and a wee tiny bit shorty) I liked most of it, puzzles, art style, characters, story, sass, even more sass. A bit less Coma-like avoiding Wolfie, but it those segments where not that frequent. Didn't have the problem with gog version, remember to have .Net Framework 3.5. Looking forward to play another game from Devspresso!

Similar to the Talos Principle

Or so they say in the GOG Galaxy recommendation panel. It seemed a bit off but I tried it. What a mistake I made... First of all it didn't work. The loading screen freezes and no hint how to fix it can be found. I had to install it from Steam, where it downloaded some version of .NET Framework and started working finally. (It was not worth bothering when I think about it now.) The start is slow. Story dragging. Visual style is weird. Not ugly though. I don't know what bothers me exactly. Every screen has just too many things in it. Animations are clunky and it's super easy to miss an interactable box. And why does the main character wear mini shorts? The music chosen does not strike right for this game. Some mechanics are unnecessary. Whole "fighting" is useless, hiding useless, consumable items useless, shopping useless. The game would be better without it. Too many random ideas are mixed in the game and it does not work well as a whole. I liked the puzzles though. A lot of them were not easy (as many nowadays puzzle games are) and I respect that. I like puzzle games, platformers and adventures and this game has everything in it. But it doesn't deliver. Everything feels really odd. Maybe I'm not the target audience. Maybe I have to be Korean to get it. But it was advertised to me as "similar to the Talos Principle" and that's an insult. And not a milion achievements can change that. I give one extra star for the puzzles. Otherwise poor experience.

Doesn't work on W10

This is apparently recent game so I'm not going to waste my time looking for working workaround because there aren't any. The game starts and then I get black screen with a colorful pointer. That's it. Can't do anything else. So the game doesn't work. Maybe it's a scam? Who knows. I don't recommend because clearly you can't play the game and there are no instructions how to make it work - don't waste your time. And no - I'm not the only one. You can't find more people with the same problem - but no solution.

Fun adventure with beautiful visuals

Scarlet Hood and the Wicked Wood is a 2D adventure game where you play as Scarlet, a singer who is mysteriously transported to a fantasy world which combines elements of several classic fictions such as Red Riding Hood, Wizard of Oz, and Alice in Wonderland, among others. The artstyle is what draws me in, it's so colorful and beautiful. The gameplay consists of finding items and clues to progress, and solving puzzle minigames. For each area you can progress it in 3 ways, by either helping a lost hero, upgrading your Womp Stick, or finding objects to subvert the enemy. The game seems to recommend helping the heroes, which is what I prefer to do too. There are multiple endings which depend on which paths you take, and in my opinion the best one is what you get by helping them all. My problem with this game is its difficulty in puzzles. Many of them aren't too clear and I have to resort to walkthroughs. But the worst of all is that catacomb puzzle in Barrow Grove where you navigate identical rooms and some have locked gates. It definitely overstays its welcome and I spend almost an hour in total getting lost there. There's also a giant wolf that randomly appears and chases you like a Resident Evil stalker enemy, but I actually like that part. Though sometimes its not really clear when and how to make it stop chasing. When I got into this game, I was expecting an easy chill adventure, due to the visuals and music. And while many parts of the game fits my expectation, I didn't expect the brain-twisting puzzles. Still, if you're looking for a fun adventure with pretty visuals and a bit of comedy, you'll definitely find it here.
