Good Game, Terrrible History

Others before me have already said how good the game itself is and I don't disagree with them. The climbing, fighting and driving is fun and fluid, the disguises are fun and neat and the map is plently large enough. However, as someone who loves history, this game is infuriating. Some things are correct, like the invasion of France taking place in May 1940, but almost everything else is just painfully wrong. MP44s can be found in 1940 (The 44 in MP 44 stands for 1944, the year they were issued) There is never a mention of "Poland" or "Norway" with people sayign "Germany has started a war" when they invade France, even though France was already at war with Germany at this time, and of course the idea of the Maignot Line is never even thought about. While this does not affect most people, I find these little errors very irritating. This is less of a WWII GTA, more of a WWII themed game. Sure two of the three tanks are based on real actual tanks. one is based on the French B1 and the other is the Panzer III. Then you have the massive tank that has two cannons on its turret. Overall i really like this game, but I am obsessed with history, so the glaring errors really stick out to me. If you don't really care about history, there should be nothing stopping you from buying this game. If you do care, just make sure to turn off the historian part of your brain before you play.

Really bad GTA clone

Ever wanted a GTA game set in World War 2? Neither have I, but once the game started, with it having a big emphasis on stealth & sabotage, I actually got excited to play it. Sadly, instead of letting you explore this interesting world, you're instantly whisked away into a series of rigid missions. And many missions later, once you get some time to roam the map unperturbed, you realize there's just not much to do living under a hostile regime. Climb a ledge & you're labeled a spy. Look at a soldier sideways & you're shot. So having to go from point A to B, all I could do was breath & tread lightly. Not very fun. There is that GTA wanted level mechanic, so you can escape trouble, but here it just feels wrong. Having the Nazis forget you by simply hiding or driving far enough from them just feels off. Sadly, everything else taken from GTA feels off too. Cars are slow & hard to maneuver, and are a great way to get unwanted attention, so why steal them. You can beat people up, but it's too easy and there's no reward in it. You can shoot people, but weapons' aim is so bad, it's quicker to kill them by punching them. And like in GTA there is a plot to tie it all together, but it's extremely nonsensical, and features walking stereotypes. The acting in this game ranges between amateurish & cringe-worthy, but seeing the dialogue, even good acting couldn't save this game. The script seems as if taken word for word from a 70s action movie parody, or some teenager's fanfic. It's as if they were penned by a writer with only an afternoon to spare, & no desire to do the work he got payed to do. Who then got studio notes to sexualize every second sentence. This game does try to move you by having a minor character killed, but seeing as he got me killed in a mission by randomly opening fire, giving away my cover, who cares. But frankly, I couldn't care less either way. With this game's many loading screens & cutscenes, I felt like I was watching a movie with mini-games wedged in.

great game

same folks that made mercs (which was also sick fun) made this game. open world gta, saints row kind of thing except you get to sleep nazis! lots of stealth and building climbing. amazing reproduction of WWII france, with landmarks to scale. great driving, period cars, WWII weapons... really good game.

Incredibly artistic game

Fun mechanics. Really nice driving - with music and all. Characters are interesting. Buy for a really cool experience.

The Boretoure

As I played a lot of Pandemic games when I was younger this was a must try. At first I was impressed by The Saboteur, the black and white graphics when going around town where the Nazis presence is strong was one of the good points in the beginning. The main quests as well as the side quests also felt good, expanding on the world of World War 2 Paris. However, the amount of collectibles and Nazi buildings to be destroyed took the fun out of this game. I am one of the guys who usually wants to find everything on a game, here everything popped up on the world map and the you just had to go around destroyng things. After one game session of about 5 hours, where I spent 0 seconds on quests but just went around destroying Nazi buildings I thought to myself. Is this fun ? - The answer was no. If you like World War 2, and to run around destroying hundreds of outposts and listeningposts this game is for you. But if you feel annoyed when doing repetetive things, this game is pretty lackluster.
