I bought it and played it!

Eternal summer seems to have finally made it to gog.com, since a bunch of fucking idiots seem to be one-star reviewing without having played the game. It's too bad, really. This is a fairly deep and complex game. It's similar in feel to Democracy, though less upfront about decision consequences. It seems like it will have greater replay value than similar games because of the aspirations aspect (a rolling list of three goals that give you good bonuses when you achieve them) which can affect the direction of your game. I have found myself quite addicted to this game and I'm glad I got it. Many indie games cost fifteen dollars, so why is it such a big deal that this one is 20? There was obviously a lot of work that went into this. I really like it.

Facebook simulator

The title of the review tells you most of what you need to know. Most of the game consists of staring at your character's "Spacebook" page, and doing typical Facebook things like commenting on your EXTREMELY NEEDY friends' pages, liking their posts, and pretending that you have a life while you really just go to work and injure yourself everyday. While it may sound terrible (and I can easily see other people finding it as such), it's strangely addicting and kinda fun. Gameplay is fast and you tend to see immediate results to your actions, which keeps you thinking "just one more 'day', and then I'll quit" as you blast through an in-game month as you work toward your next life goal to see if anything cool happens when you achieve it. If you want a cute little game that parodies the Facebook experience, I'd say pick this game up when it's on sale. It does have its charm, but it's rarely the game on the forefront of my mind when deciding what to play. (**SPOILERS below!!!!!**) And absolutely do NOT expect a satisfying conclusion: the "ending" is basically a simple splash screen with the words "Congratulations" on it. Doesn't make it a bad game, but remember to enjoy the meat of the game for what it is, without hope for any kind of exciting or entertaining conclusion.

Rather Dull Facebook sim

Redshirt is driven entirely through "spacebook", which is exactly what it sounds like it would be. Though the general premise is interesting at first glance, the actual game play is very limited in the choices available and the outcomes seem to be too random to effect much through what choices are made. All told, it's a rather dull facebook simulator.

Unbalanced Grind

This is interesting, if not exactly fun for the first hour or two, but then you realise the rewards/benefits that your character gains are fairly linear, while the requirements increase exponentially. Kind of understandable if this were one of those crappy micro-payment skinner boxes, but I paid actual money for this(I think.. at least they're asking actual money). I stuck with it for another couple of hours with the hope of just finishing the game, but it just gets slower and slower, with nothing to do but click the same buttons over and over.
