A week from a Redneck's life:
Deer Diary:
Munday: Well, we crash-landed that UFO in the desert and Bubba says he wants to go home. Heck, I don't blame him 'cause there ain't no place like Hickston. But according to my map, we're gonna have to blast our way through jack o' lope farms and a riverboa...
Munday: Well, we crash-landed that UFO in the desert and Bubba says he wants to go home. Heck, I don't blame him 'cause there ain't no place like Hickston. But according to my map, we're gonna have to blast our way through jack o' lope farms and a riverboat as well as a brothel (Bubba can't wait) 'fore we get home again.
Toosday: Met new folks like Daisy Mae (she's purty). Bikers, pigs, cows and jack o' lopes. I think I even saw the King at the Slurp n' Burp.
Winsday: Yeehaw! Got to joyride in a Swamp Buggy and a motorcycle that were both armed to the teeth. I hope those peoples I ran over will be alrite. I still got a darn jack 'o lope stuck in the grill though.
Thersday: New ways to destroy stuff! I found over 10 weapons like a crossbow that shoots dynamite-loaded chickens and a slingblade. Mmmm-Hmm!
Fri-day: Sure am hungry! I just need some good ol' redneck powerups like pork rinds, cow pies and some of my granpappy's moonshine!
Saterday: Boy I sure so like those toe tapping tunes by that good ol' boy Mojo Nixon.
Sunday: Heck! With all the new places we been, I sure wish my kinfolk could've come along for the ride!
Want to experience more than just a week? Then take a dip into the Redneck's world of floating whiskey and widespread pork rinds. The crazy adventure continues through Redneck Rampage, Redneck Rampage Rides Again: Arkansas and Redneck Rampage: Suckin' Grits on Route 66. Now all three games bundled together.
But wait, there's more! For those curious about the Redneck language you can download and install "Cuss Pack" add-on (follow the readme.txt file for instructions).
Includes Redneck Rampage, Redneck Rampage Rides Again: Arkansas and Redneck Rampage: Suckin' Grits on Route 66
Heal your wounds with alcohol and battle aliens redneck-style!
Visit famous sites like Area 51 or Route 66 and kill those damn aliens
The Game:
This game has the most personality I've seen in game in a while. Not a big fan of the sewer section but picked right back up after it. Rat Aimin' Mode is a must (You'll thank me when you play the sewer level) and a remapping of the controls really makes it feel modern, but the original control scheme has it's charm once you get used to it. The cuss pack is great don't forget to add it to the game folder.
The Port:
It works. It crashes every so often and has sprite flicker on the weapons and some other game objects.
The menu isn't displaying over the overlay; not that big of a deal.
Still going strong on my journey to play games I missed out on during my childhood and teenage years.
And for the first time, I finished Redneck Rampage... I played the demo as a teen, but it didn’t really win me over back then.
But I had a blast — gameplay was tricky because I tried to go for the "traditional" experience without switching to WASD controls... but I caved in.
What a fun game! Of course, in the pace of Doom clones, it really stands out for its "originality".
You got hillbillies fighting aliens...
And the soundtrack alone is worth it — I laughed a lot.
Great game... spent more time on it than I expected... now that I know it better, I’d probably cut 4 hours off the playthrough.
But it was totally worth it.
I’ll be making a video review soon!
It's really nice to see these old titles making a comeback.
I have the original's on CD's, But GOG and DosBox have made it so much easier to enjoy them on
Bill Gates newest OSes that I could not resist but to buy them.
I hope to see more titles come here soon!
Nice to see Interplay coming back too!
I have only 2 complaints about this game-The soundtrack, and how short the game itself is, but this is typical as per most First Person Shooter games. I enjoyed how lengthy the levels (Some took me 45 minutes to an hour) can be compaired to say Blood (15-30 minutes per level), and how tricky it was to find the keys. I finally beat the game today. I would honestly say to those who said it was hard to find the keys to try a bit harder, some of the cracks to use dynamite on this game are VERY hard to see, however if you look closely you can see it. A fun, interesting take on the first person shooter game, nothing new but it was neat to heal yourself with cow pies and whiskey. I would reccomend this to anyone who likes Blood or Duke Nukem, however be aware that it will challenge you a bit, and also it is a REDNECK game,if your offended by the stereotype, dont play it. I personally liked it because I live in a town where people assume we are Hillbilly's so I can relate to the game a bit more.
I've been doing a marathon of FPS classics and every ounce of nostalgia that hits me when I play a classic exhales happiness.
But unfortunately it is not the case with Redneck Rampage.
Unlike his three wonderful brothers: Blood, Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior.
The only two things that this game really carries over after so many years is the wonderful Build Engine, which is still a reality in game design as it was done in Ion Fury.
If I had to make a list of pros and cons it would be something like that.
PROS:
-Environment that makes complete sense in the game's Redneck theme.
-Build Engine
-Soundtrack which was one of the best things that the game really did
CONS:
-Level Design is horrible, very large and confusing maps, with the same simple elements being repeated literally ALL THE MAPS
-SEWER LEVELS EVERYWHERE!
-Vital switches for map progression well hidden as if they were secrets
-Terrible gunplay, most weapons were just bad
-Terrible Jokes and fun stuff, i really don't know how you fell when you play this game after more than 10 years, but for me those jokes about literall shit sounded really awefull
Anyway, this game has aged very badly!
For me that I am just revisiting the classics, my experience with this game was terrible, I couldn't wait to finish the game and do a negative analysis.
This game is waiting for a review. Take the first shot!
