Realms of the Haunting

I played ROTH many years ago, and even today the experience still has a hold on me. Great atmosphere and some really intense moments makes for a very rewarding time. I also jumped more times than I would like to admit, but hey, it was worth it.

This is one of handful of games that are so good I would play them again and again. It's creepy, fun and has a well written narrative. I already own this on CD-Rom, but the idea of getting it to run in Win xp/7 made me shake in fear. When I originally ran it I had to do custom .bat file and change one of the interrupts on my sound card to get it stable and running. It was totally worth it. This version will play nice and if you want to experince a classic game that lives up to the potential of it's material, then look no further. BUY THIS NOW!

I didn't think I would like this game because of its action and combat, but I found the game has a strong adventure component as well and is not just another combat/action/strategy game. It's all four genres in one game. Parts of the game have no combat but have challenges such as crossing a pool of water and jumping from place to place in the water to avoid falling in. Other parts are combating with weird creatures. You use different weapons to get rid of the enemies which can be skeletons or weird looking creatures. Its not like an ordinary combat game where you shoot and blood all over. It takes a lot of timing to get past enemies and you have to be quick. For me, the whole game is an adventure. A young man is on a quest from start to finish which makes it an adventure. Its a long game and it's unfortunate the resolution of the graphics are not as good as I wish they were. too bad they wouldn't have re-mastered it. There are some beautiful scenes in the game which would have looked great in higher graphics. But even so, the game is still wonderful to play. its challenging and innovative and imaginative. I can't think of any other computer game like it. Its one of a kind. I thought it was a very good game which I have replayed several times. Its a long game so takes a while. I downloaded it from Gog.com and played it again and had no problems playing it on my computer. So get it here.

I bought this game way back when it first came out and I still go back to it again and again. It is a first person shooter/horror/puzzle game with a fantastic storyline. If you are looking for an immersive game, then this one is worth your consideration. It still has me jumping out of my seat at times as a demon rips from the ground behind me, and one room I still stand at the doorway trying to compose myself before I go in. The FMV cut scenes are good too, really advancing the storyline, which is not the run of the mill shoot and get to the end, but is full of twists and plots, and just when you think you've got a handle on what is happening, can just as easily turn your world around. Sure, the graphics look dated compared to some games today. But if you're like me an want a good solid game play, something that makes me think as well as challenging my reflexes, then sincerely give this a try - you won't be disappointed.

I'm gonna start out by saying, this game's graphics are dated. But that doesn't stop it from being one of the most epic games I've ever played. First and foremost it's an FPS (First Person Shooter) but the experience is almost like you've walked into the pages of a great mystery/horror novel and are living it. The conversion from FPS to a kinda point-and-click as you play the game makes it not only easy to confront whatever you might run into, but also interact with the environment. Video cut-scenes are tastefully placed and have appropriate lengths for the situations. You'll be fairly shocked at how lengthy the game is. It took me over a month (between school, etc) to get to the end. All in all, a great game and well worth the cost.
