An amazing cinematic platformer
Planet of Lana is a gorgeous cinematic platformer. You play as the titular Lana, a young girl living a peaceful life with her older sister Elo on a remote planet. One day, the planet gets invaded by robots, kidnapping all inhabitants of Lana's village, including her sister. Lana manages to escape and goes on a journey to save Elo. Along the way she befriends a cat-like creature called Mui. Together they have to stay hidden from the robots and reach the alien mothership. The hand-painted art style is gorgeous to behold and the game's original score manages to enhance the mood of each scene perfectly. From quiet and serene when exploring the world to building tension when Lana is being chased by robots. I thoroughly loved the atmosphere in this. Being a cinematic platformer, each jump and action Lana performs needs to be planned out in order to survive. Just like in other games of this particular sub-genre, like Limbo or Abe's Odyssey, animations tend to be long in these kinds of games, which increases the tension when you're trying to stay hidden from your enemies. You can also give commands to your pal Mui. They can perform certain key actions like flipping switches or biting cords. Giving Mui the command to go to a specific spot can be finicky sometimes, but that's the only negative I can think of and you get used to it after a while. At four to five hours, Planet of Lana has the perfect length for a game like this, giving you a satisfactory journey without overstaying its welcome. I love this little game and I consider it the very best this sub-genre of platformers has to offer. Well worth your time and money!
