Your average Slipgate product
Slipgates output over the years has been not stellar to be very kind. Phantom Fury does not change that. It feels unfinished and unpolished all around. The story is completly forgetable as well as the dialogue, removing them would not change the game at all. Might be even better. They set out to be what Duke Nukem Forever could not be. And somehow they could not even be the Duke Nukem Forever we got. There is no humor in this game. Zero. Beats having to listen to dead-meme humor but still dissapointing. Level design is hit and miss, way finding can be tedious and sometimes it's just not clear where the game wants you to go. Sometimes there are no leads at all. No light or other kind of clue. The weapons feel alright, better than I remember from the awful demo they put out. There are just too many of them. Would not have hurt to just combine some of them to remove inventory clutter. The enemy AI is downright broken at times. With enemies just staring into the distance even if their comrades are getting slaughter right beside them. They get stuck in walls or in the level geometry in general which makes them easy targets. Shelly has no personality whatsoever. It's such a shame to have this cool character and them doing nothing with it. Back in 2013 ROTT was kinda neat. Not great, but there was fun to be had. Janky but a love letter to shooters. Over ten years later the benefit of the doubt for the small little danish developer making cute little indie titles is long over. Rad Rodgers, Bombshell, Graven, Kingpin Reloaded???. It's time to step up the game. Stick with Ion Fury. Play Aftershock. Hope that Shelly will one day get a game that's worth it.
