Something of a shame but still fun
This game, as you might guess from the reviews ,is a bit of a surprise from the other descriptions. While not quite like that, there is still a great deal of strategy involved, deciding which buildings to take, buying and selling booze and guns, trying to accumulate wealth to buyout rivals and completing objectives in a story. The cities are beautiful but instead of a grand sim it's done in 'stages' and the only thing that carries over is your gangsters levels and equipment, every level starts fresh. The main problem is there is little pressure, and no opponents so with no risk to lose the game I have to ask, why not implement some kind of ranking system so people can compete against themselves? Even just a day counter where you have a reason to attempt to beat levels as fast as possible, or a scoring system. It's a shame these things weren't done because without a challenge or a reason to try to beat levels with finesse the game is simply a very good looking, well styled but poorly designed gangster level based strategy game. I was somewhat remiss that, given the 'sim' aspect of creating a character it didn't have more roleplaying elements or hand over more control of the game to my decisions. Do I recommend Omerta? Yes. But not at its current price.

Simplistic.
It's hard to describe just how badly broken this game is. Everything about it just doesn't work, although on paper it should be good. Possibly the most boring game I've played in years.
