All in all, a good show

Face value honesty, I played this game 6 years ago on Steam, it takes around 24 hours to complete, and at the time I was reasonably entertained by it. The reason I wrote the review is to attempt to manage any potential readers's expectation about the game. RPG elements are rather poor, it is mostly an Action/Stealth hybrid. While I wouldn't exactly call it tedious, there is nothing too special about the combat, but there are alternative solutions to some encounters which I quite actively pursued. To get to the point in slightly brutal fashion, the only reason to play the game is the story. I felt the need to clap at the end and the only reason I stopped was that I was alone in my room. I don't even remember the story exactly, I just remember that I felt such an internal surge of "I feel entertained" and I found most of the reviewers really don't convey that. Might not be worth the full price, but definitely anything in single figures will give you a good return for your money.

Taktyczna wlaka wręcz

Na początku (zanim zrozumiecie mechanikę i znajdziecie swoje sposoby na wygranie niemozliwych do wygrania starc minie troche czasu) gra doprowadzała mnie do frustracji. Byłem bliski deinstalacji :) Po przetrwaniu kryzysu i znalezieniu skutecznych kombinacji okazało się, że jest bardzo łatwo ! Jednak istnieją momenty w których lepiej wyeliminować kilku wrogów po cichu, niż od razu zaczynać jadkę. Ciekawe historia i podejście do tematu z perspektywy orków utrzymało mnie przed monitorem. Wady: samouczek nie nauczy cię walczyć w tym dziwnym systemie - musisz kombinować (dopiero rozwój postaci i nowe techniki sprawią, że będzie z górki) RPG - to to nie jest (chyba, że pozorne lub nieistotne dla fabuły wybory uznajesz za RPG) NAJGORSZE !!! - Jest kilka cutscenek, których nie da sie pomniąć - ale może ze 3 więc do wytrzymania Ps. Mimo tych subiektywych odczuć co do wad daję 5 - w dzisiejszych czasach mało która gra zatrzymuje mnie do końca fabuły. Pewnie dlatego, że jestem za stary na współczesne tytuły dla graczy bezmyślnych i młodych

Story is Better Than the Game

I love Spiders games (Greedfall, Mars War Logs...etc) and this game like those boasts fantastic characters, a fleshed out world, really fun voice actors, tons of options...and an almost broken combat system. I love the concept of this game more than the execution: a more 'shades of grey' tale of orcs and humans at war but also sometimes allied if needs be against common foes. Orcs are not saintly noble savages but brutish, grumpy, pragmatic warriors with their own convictions against not a cardboard 'evil empire' but a much more nuanced alliance of with religion thrown into the mix. A lot of fun (and sometimes funny) conversations abound and I followed the gameplay mostly just to see the relationships and factions evolve. But that's the problem I had: the gameplay is not very tight. Movement is floaty and weird, especially for the gigantic orc and the tiny goblin, both scooting along rather than feeling fully in control. Combat is done from a pause menu but although there is animation is feels more like rolling dice as 'hits' can be dodged if an enemy manages a save or you blew your attack roll and damage is almost at random. Stealth is finicky. You can't tell whose looking at you and you don't hold down 'sneak', you just apply the effect to the goblin and he can only assassinate enemies VERY close to them from behind. I loved the setting, the music, the progression was exciting, the atmosphere was fantastic, but the gameplay just continually felt like I was fighting the system more than the enemies. Definitely play this if you can negotiate the system better and won't let a few wonky design decisions stand in the way of an excellent yarn.

I loved all 3 games

I loved all 3 games (Of Orcs and Men, Master of Shadows, Shards of Darkness) - this is a bit of review for the whole bundle. The story, the characters are amazing! If they ever make a new game, I hope good old Styx will come through and the team will stay true to the roots. These games sure have their unique atmosphere. Subtle, dark, gritty, humourous, nasty and lovable. I loved the level design and the art! Loved the stealth - and the voice! And the music, masterpiece! Loved and both suffered through the gameplay (at times) - but then, I'm kind of a noob - don't have much time to play - so when I do, I really appreciate games like these. They've got soul. Had so much fun - and pain... lotsa pain - but in the end, when I finished Shards of Darkness, the only question in my mind was "Phew this was a wild ride... okay, and what happens next? I sure hope there will be more of Styx!" Fingers crossed so hard I could break a walnut.

I totally reccomend it

If you like fantasy games and movies like lord of the rings you will love Of Orcs and Men and also you probably won't find any game to play as an orc That's kinda sad I enjoyed playing of orcs and men and I'll probably going to play again Thanks Spiders and cyanide studios for making such a nice game.
