No Longer In Early Access

This game has received some heat during development; mostly because of a lack of communication. It has been consistently behind the Steam version, but only because GOG is only receiving stable builds, not the beta builds that Steam gets. Not ideal, but i can live with this because having the game DRM-Free is important to me. Despite what the store page says, this game is no longer in early access (currently 1.00.30). If you like colony sims, it's probably time to give this one a try. -1 Star for poor communication, but definitely worth your $$

Fun but needs development

Coming from a Dwarf Fortress background I can say that this is a fun, if a bit lighter game. The different races allow for some interesting variation on the classic town/fort builder. However, the menus could use some work to make them a bit easier to sort. Again, this title is in development and the lack of polish isn't a huge issue, but I would be disappointed if it didn't improve before 1.0.

Great game, lots of promise.

Fantastic game. There's a high bar to entry, though. There's no hand-holding, and so if you're not the type to enjoy fiddling with things to learn how they work— often to your people's failure— then this may not be a good entry for you. Imagine games from the 90s where all you had was an icon and some toggles, and you gotta use your brain to figure it out. The game is fantastic once you figure it out, though. I enjoy it more than Dwarf Fortress much of the time, which is blasphemous. The dev's just one dude, so updates come like you'd expect, but the game is very playable as-is. He's incredibly passionate about this project though, and it shows through all his updates and expanded content. The music is also great.

Great Potental, wasted by updates.

This unfortunately, is a game that has fallen to the strange curse of early access. It had it's thunder stolen by other games releasing around it, the developer kept making decisions that derailed gameplay, the GUI is worse than ever, and it is such a shame to see this happen again with another game like this. Which, it has some interesting concepts like being able to play as Immortal Until Violence skeletons. Or weird tree people. But this is all held back by an incredibly clumsy interface, a pixelated font that can be hard to read at times, and a completely and thoroughly lacking tutorial. It used to be that you built the things your people needed, and you didn't need to assume a room or activity zone. Then one was introduced, only to be replaced with the other, and each iteration was needlessly more complicated than the previous. Things which other games manage easier, this game turns into a pain of many clicks. This is exemplified to dire straits within labor management and uniform assignment.

Amazing Colony Sim

All-in-all the game is an amazing colony sim in a similar vein to Dwarf Fortress with a less-steep learning curve and far better aesthetics. I've seen others say that the developer is neglectful because the GoG version has fallen behind. This is no fault of the developer, as GoG are very delayed in allowing releases to be published. The developer has been very hard at work to ensure each of the reported bugs are handled as well as adding suggested features in a timely manner. Though the GoG version may be a delayed-release, I highly recommend this game to anyone.
