Objects in Space is an open world 2D stealth-action space trading game set in Apollo – a huge cluster of star systems dozens of lightyears away from Earth. You are a ship’s captain, buying and selling wares in order to keep your bucket o' bolts afloat and stay one step ahead of pirates, organised criminals, corrupt governments and shady laws.

A galaxy of characters await you in Objects in Space. The game focuses on a myriad of short stories rather than one main storyline with a hero’s journey, so it’s up to you how much or how little narrative you want in your game.

Combat in Objects sees ships treated more like Cold War submarines than WWII dogfighters. You’ll be running silent, planning manoeuvres far ahead of time and engaging in deadly games of cat-and-mouse with nebulous enemies, but only for those players who seek it out. Combat-averse players can pay attention to the news and avoid pirate-heavy systems and choose not to explore the deadly uncharted areas of space where greater numbers of pirates lurk.

It’ll be up to you to keep your ship’s systems running as quietly as possible, going fully ‘dark’ if you have to, just floating with your current trajectory and speed hoping to avoid showing up on anyone else’s scanners as you traverse some of the most dangerous shipping lanes in space.

To make your money, there are over fifty employers and your reputation with each one will dictate how many passenger, cargo or bounty-hunting contracts are available to you. But be warned - failure to complete a contract might see your rep plummet with that employer. So when you get an SOS signal from a nearby ship but have a deadline to keep, what will you do?

Your ship is completely customisable down to the tiniest component of each module. If your battery dies, it’s your own fault. You decided to go with a cheap Ventarii battery in the first place, and it was out of your stubbornness that you thought a Connext Hap Node when the mechanic recommended a Xiao Sa brand model. Silly you.

You can play it safe in the central systems or design your ship with the ability to outrun, outfight or out-hide your opponents and make your fortune in the outer rims. But be careful! You are just as easily prey as predator in deep space…

Great emergent gameplay!

I had just jumped into a backwater star system, on my way to completing a lucrative bootleg alcohol delivery. As soon as I arrive in the system, my sensors detect a pirate attack in progress. No biggie, looks like the pirate is targeting someone else. I try to steer clear of the ongoing attack. Oh wait, crap there is a stray torpedo heading my way. Thank god I bought a countermeasure (decoy) module just the other day. I wait until the torpedo gets moderately close, drop my decoy, hit the emcon (stealth mode) button, and duck into a nearby nebula. I breath a sign of relief as the torpedo zooms past my tail and coasts harmlessly out towards interstellar space. I proceed on to my original destination, still in emcon mode, just to be safe (besides, I’ve just replaced some of my ship’s parts with low-power components, so I can coast in emcon mode for quite a while before my batteries run out of charge). Not sure why I’m still hearing this slow beeping sound though. I mean, the torpedo is still on my screen, but it’s clearly moving away from me… ***CRUNCH*** everything shakes for a few seconds. My ship’s monitors are knocked askew, and they flash this message “Main drive destroyed, ship is disabled”. WTF!!! It turns out there was *another* torpedo that slipped right into the blindspot behind my ship without me noticing. I kicked myself for not remembering to rotate my ship every so often so that my sensors can scan my backside. Well, I guess that was my fault. At least I’m still alive. I see this button for “SOS beacon” on my helm console. I guess it’s time to hit that button and find out what it does… My ship gets towed to the nearest space station, and I find out that the towing fee wipes out all my savings. I take out all the loans I can, but it's still not enough to get my ship back into working shape. Welp, I guess it’s time to retire as a broke, indebted dirt farmer then… lol If this kind of emergent story-making appeals to you, then you’ll love this game!

Eat your heart out Star Citizen

Joking title aside, this game does actually kind of feel like what Star Citizen wants to be. Obviously there are some massive technological differences, but the game does a good job of capturing that immersion factor of "oh crap my navigation system is fried, I'll need to go through storage to find that replacement part" etc. The game has some shortcomings, it doesn't run terribly well (the way the game is designed, it doesn't really need to have constant 60+ framerates, but it'd still be nice), the controls are a bit lacking (it'd be nice if we could scroll though menus with the scroll wheel), and even with the tutorial, it can still take a while to figure out all the game's systems. That being said, I'm having an absolute blast with this game. You basically get exactly what it says on the box, so if you think you'll like this game, you'll probably like this game. If you're on the fence, I reccomend you give it a shot, though maybe wait for a sale

ubuntu 18.04 could not run the game

I am not able to run the game. After few days I have not other response from gog team than automatic one, that they will look into it. Running Objects In Space ./runois.sh: line 3: 16239 Segmentation fault (core dumped) LD_LIBRARY_PATH=${PWD}/libs ./ois So, if you are the linux user, reconsider the purchase... It is sad, because it looks like great game and I would gladly wait longer before refund request, If I would have feeling there is someone trying to solve the problem.

Boring dialogues

This game is built on bright idea, but suffers from poor writing and execution. 1. Dialogues give very few options that usually are the same thing with different cherry on top. 2. Character behaves as and infantile 15yr old child with anxiety issues. (Some lines like dismissing comms are damn cheesy to read.) 3. There are characters that try to "educate" (feminst way) you, but fail to give compelling foundation on their position. 4. Few dialogue options force you to get rekt by those charactes during speech. 5. There are long, boring unskippable dialogs almost every time you get a passenger. What can I say? Solid 10/10 game journalists despite being built on solid ideas.

so my game experience is just looking at the preview screens. these graphics look like its being played on an Atari LOL. seriously is this what has become acceptable in a 2019 game? maybe a 99 cent game. shakin my head, i dont get it
