Don't buy this Techdemo

This is not a finished game, this is not even the game we've seen in the Trailers. This is not even the game some company named Hello Games were advertising. This is the techdemo of that game, a good one, but a shallow and buggy one. It looks pretty sometimes, it makes fun but it is not worth your precious 50+ USD or EUR, more like 15 - 20. I appreciate the programming affort behind it, the generation of solar systems, planets, animals and such, but there is so much that needs to be done before we can call this a real Game. Wait for the (hopefully) upcoming patches, improvements and gameplay features over the next year, but don't BUY this game NOW. AND REMEMBER DON'T PREORDER GAMES -- EVER. BR, incureforce

Abuse of customers

Updating my review. When the game originally came out, people were upset with it for many reasons clearly explained, many of which you can see discussed in other reviews. At the time I was willing to give the developers some slack: the core of the game was essentially what I had expected. Since then, they have released multiple expansions. Every single one of these expansions has followed the same path as the original release: a horrifically bug-ridden mess, followed by a dribble of fixes over the course of the next few months, ending well before all the serious bugs were actually fixed. Then, a new release repeating the process. Hello Games has gotten lots of good press for this behavior, because the people rediscovering the game never spend enough time with it to notice all the things that are broken, nor have they followed the game for long enough to realize that many of the problems they encounter have been problems over the course of multiple expansions and yet never get fixed. A few specific examples. Frigate interiors not implemented; enter the wrong frigate and you fall into empty space - not fixed for nearly a year. Exiting ground vehicles; you could get thrown into near-orbit, dying when you'd finally fall back down - again, a year or so went by before they did anything about it. Even just remapping controls; since they have both remappable controls and hard-coded control schemes, it is very easy to get in a situation where you press a key and two things happen at once, one of which you did not intend. The Beyond release includes an overhaul of key remapping which should fix this, but no; that feature was and remains as of this writing completely nonfunctional, you can't remap anything. It's clear nobody even glanced at the feature before deciding to release it. And finally my own most immediate problem; the graphics have gotten unplayably scrambled with Beyond. Do not reward this systematic abuse. The game's not worth it.

Definitive Space Exploration Simulator

Like many others I was duped into buying No Man's Sky at launch all the way back in 2016. Despite thoroughly enjoying the initial setup of repairing my ship and launching off into infinite space (core gaming memory right there); beyond that point, NMS used to be a total hot garbage mess of a game. How far it has come... Mysterious, captivating, complex, exciting, gratifying, addicting, larger than life. No Man's Sky has become everything it wasn't at launch, and has grown to become one of my most cherished gaming experiences of all time. The definitive space exploration simulator, if you will.

Best turnaround in history

It's a shame the rating is so low on this game. It must be from all those early reviews when the game failed to live up to the hype But there is never been a better time to play No Man's Sky. The devs didn't give up on it, they they just kept making it better and better. NMS is a whole bunch of games in one. You can enjoy endless exploration, base building, a rich universe with a cool back story, trading, and some combat (although the later isn't it's strong suit). With the new Origins update... there's even more to see and do BTW, I've originally bought this on Steam and that's the one I've been playing.... but when I saw the chance to get a DRM free copy on GOG for 1/2 price... I couldn't resist.

Potential for greatness

The GOOD: - Vast universe, freedom of making your own way. - Potential for coop is great. - Variety in aesthetics, most worlds have their own looks, tho a single biome. - Upgrade systems are intuitive, good tooltips The BAD: - After 20+ worlds, there's no new events, buildings or anomalies to catch your fancy. - The main plot is a bit hit and miss. Your options tend to be limited to Y/N, and the NPCs feel indifferent and sterile. No player agency. - The language system is just terrible. Going through all the creatures in the universe and asking each one individually to translate a single word seems like a fool's errand. Even the autotranslation software helps only a limited amount, and it doesn't store the translated words. - Some quests are a bit buggy, still. The requirement to have the mission set as 'active' can botch some quests something awful. One example was raiding a Sentinel supply depot for the Arms Vykeen, but it froze up since I blew up the depo before I had selected the mission as active. Also, the endgame event will crash if you have a black hole location lined up. I mostly ended up dying by having my ship ram into the freighter and get stuck; at times, the freighter dissapeared completely from view. The MIXED: - Space combat can be interesting, but I would like to see it in a bigger scale. - I love Freighters, but having a multimillion ship handed over to you for free seemed a bit odd, especially how many loops you had to run through to get the sub tech and buildings opened. The resource management for your fleet is also a blessing and a curse: having all your resources read for recipes and building is awesome; however, collecting resources from your frigates is a nuisance at best, as the storage caps at around a 100 units. You also need to land into your freighter every time to get a status report from your fleet, despite receiving constant status updates from the expeditions via GUI. - Got PK'd on my first online game. Didn't care for it.
