Solid game let down by poor voice acting
The writing and voice acting are pretty bad but is still a Good Old Game for sure. It feels a little bit like if Eve-Online had a single-player campaign.

A surprise gem!
There's really little you can criticize about Nexus TJI. The voice acting is off at times, some of the missions have a minute or so of excessive downtime while flying, and the middle part of the story can be confusing. Beyond that, you get a game which gives you very deep tactical control in a well-done and well-presented (even by modern standards, you can change registry-values to get 1920x1080 for example) space environment, with a very engaging story and a really awesome main character (not Cromwell!). I loved this game back when it came out, and I'm still loving it now. I only hope the successor will be similar.

A rough diamond
Reading the reviews to this made me happy, that I was not the only to hear of the game, and to play it. However I feel the optimism for this game needs to be tempered. This game is much like a diamond, intensely hard. The stealth missions are difficult, almost unreasonably so. It also has features that other games cringe at, because it is so easy to loose your captial ships. Also like a diamond, it is visually stunning, the backgrounds it take place feel desolate, yet you can't say you've seen better. There is a beauty in the realism of the ship design, things we might see built if we dare to dream. This exemplifies what fleet tactics is about, doing the best you can with delicate units, working to maximise their potential. The story itself is well told and surprised me, after completing it after a great many months, there was no point where I lost interest. The characters themselves are so very human, even those who aren't. For the fans of the genre, those who seek a challenge and perhaps for the visuals. Don't ever loose sight that it is described as a simulator, that way you can enjoy it. I am torn between three and four stars, but for the sheer unrivaled joy for seeing the campaign through it has to be four.

Good Story & Graphics
This game is awesome visually. The story could be a little better but who cares when there's spaceship shooting volleys of laser at each other. Also has a nasty tendency to CTD unexpectedly. Besides those things its a really good game.

One of the Best Games out there
Well, I love this game, even for the year it came out, the graphics and quality are amazing, even by today's standards. I have never seen a game like this (as in Genre) that looks this good AND has just as good a story. The only downside to this game being played on modern hardware is widescreen, this game is limited to 4x3 based resolutions, so anything 16x9 and 16x10 is a no go. There is a patch made by fans of the game, it allows the higher resolution of your choice (in my case 1920x1200), but it causes some viewing issues during briefings, which doesn't stop you from succeeding, you can still listen to them, you just can't see the cool briefings. I do wish all developer companies can put in a scaling interface for games so it is future proof to an extent. In the end, a brilliant game, it deserves 5/5, but the lack of widescreen support loses a point.
