Myst Masterpiece Edition

does myst work with windows 7 if i buy it from gog.com

The game I downloaded did not appear to have better graphics - maybe on a small 1024x768 screen it looks improved, but on my 1920x1200 it looks blocky terrible and worse than I remember the original ever being, even though I've not stretched the image at all. Other than that - oh boy, it's been so long since I played this game I'd forgotten how ugly and flat the 2D image 1990s' game-world navigating was. Did I really put up with this 20yrs ago? Also, I think the intro's missing or mostly edited out - no info, just a book page I clicked on and was just there on the (heavily pixellated) island. I carried on for a bit but, I guess from having been spoiled by decades of good gaming graphics and at least basic isometric or 3D gaming since then, I just can't put up with it. Sorry.

This was the best selling PC game of all time until The Sims and its endless content packs. Unfortunately it is one of the worst games ever made. Dull, pointless, slow and laughably non-interactive. It will bore you senseless with its abstract puzzles and flick screen movement. It was a dog when it was released and will be far worse now. It was the vanguard of a whole host of tedious drivel (mostly from CRYO it has to be said) that died off fairly quickly. This should be dropped down a well and covered in concrete. Avoid like the plague.

Ooooffff... Myst... what can I say? It didn't age well at all lol. To be fair, I never played this game when I was a kid, so there is no nostalgia factor with me. With that being said, I did not think this was a good game at all. The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one is because it is such a famous/historical game and it does deserve our respect in that sense. I thought "realMyst" was much better than the original Myst. I would recommend giving that one a try. It improved the graphics and game mechanics a lot in my opinion. But honestly, even that version of Myst was lacking compared to Riven. Riven is where it's at! So in conclusion, give this game a try for curiosity's sake, or revisit it for nostalgia's sake, but don't expect anything amazing.
